2. So there's a correlation between % gun ownership and gun death rates?

Do the gun nuts know about this? Or do they just not care?

4. This could start a lively discussion

Remember, though, guns don't kill people. People with guns kill people. With guns.

7. "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride". Kind of like a pregnant Palin daughter.

10. What state should you avoid if you want to avoid Snowplow Deaths?

Or, actually, what states have the highest suicide rates? Those seem like bad states to live in.

11. I could have sworn I saw a chart that implied otherwise..

that higher ownership didn't necessarily correlate with higher death rates.

Can't find it though, and I have to say the image in the OP just seems obvious.

12. Just curious

How do we know the percentage of gun ownership in a state?

I know lots of folks that have guns for years that are neither registered nor anyone that would be compiling this data would even know about.

Just curious as to the "behind the stats" equation as I've seen the same report (2007) that lists different states in the top 5. Some are in this top 5 but some are not.

13. I see that they obtained the Firearms death rate from the CDC, however

it does not state where they obtained the firearm ownership statistics. I searched out using both bing and google and I found several consistant rates of ownership, however they were all tied to a Wahington post survey from 2001. The percentages of ownership were quite close to the VPC's graphic. Here is what I could find for all 50 states using the same CDC data for 2007.

Sorted By Gun ownership Ranking (1 high 50 low) - Overall Gun Death Ranking (1 high 50 low) - Gun Homicide Ranking (1 high 50 low) - State With Ownership Percentage. The gun deaths overall and gun homicides are all based on rate per 100K of each state's population.

GO - GD - GH - State (Ownership %)
01 - 10 - *38 Wyoming (59.7%)
02 - 03 - 26 Alaska (57.8%)
02 - 13 - *40 Montana (57.7%)
04 - 42 - *48 South Dakota (56.6%)
