Re: Dorner - It does not have to mean one dimensional thinking

1. You can condemn what the guy did.

2. You can disapprove of the LAPD using Southern California as a shooting gallery in their keystone cops impersonation.

3. You can want the guy to be caught and tried in a court of law, which is in accordance with the 6th Amendment to the US Constitution, instead of saying "Let's drone the sucker with a hellfire missile!"

These things are not in conflict, and can be held in the mind at the same time.

1. Agree with everything but that last bit.

I don't think anyone is saying use a hellfire missile. If they are, that's crazy talk.

2. I admit I added that bit as a little hyperbolic on purpose

thanks for your post.

3. They may not be seriously saying it, but they are saying they are ok with it

I don't think anyone seriously believes that weapon-equipped drones would be used in LA. But some people think Dorner would be an appropriate target for such a thing if it did exist.

6. sure, but of course NO ONE HERE has said what you put in quotes:

"Let's drone the sucker with a hellfire missile!"

Classic strawman, and if it's not a quote it's dishonest to put it it in quotations. Do link to that quote.

10. I read that very statement at least once this morning

No, I don't have the link, and I'm presuming it was in jest, but there was no indication of humor, and it certainly wasn't sarcasm. The words would not be an exact match, very close though, so indeed such has been posted on this subject, and the OP is not at all off base.

Even if posted in jest, I don't think it wise to go there. It helps legitimize the whole drone thing, implying that it's ok if the target is vile enough.

edited to add:
OK, I back-tracked on the threads I read, and it wasn't in a Dorner thread, it was in a Nugent thread. The post was pretty clearly in jest, even though it didn't say so. I wouldn't post such a thing for the reasons stated above, but no big deal, and no bad vibes on my behalf to the person who posted it.

7. True! But the fear-based are already screaming for DRONES:

Should an armed drone be dispatched to kill Christopher Dorner?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/feb/11/chris-dorner-drones-lapd

Not realizing that doing so would further erase the Bill of Rights.

8. This goes without saying, except that obviously it needs saying.

Thanks.

9. Logical thinking

In too short of supply. You have it exactly right. I sometimes think people view these events as movies where there is a good and a bad guy, and they have to pick one.
