When W was president, progressive Democrats used to give a rats ass

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Stinky The Clown (a host of the General Discussion forum).

about unconstitutional encroachments on our civil liberties, FEMA
camps, illegal wiretapping, renditions, torture, etc.

Now that Obama is POTUS, not so much.

Now, while Obama works his secret "kill list" and signs the NDAA,
the only people even still talking about FEMA camps are the Right-
wing-nuts like Alex Jones.

Well, I'm here to tell you that we are being "led" inch-by-inch -- ever
since the Kennedy and King assassinations -- steadily and surely along a
path toward becoming a neo-Fascist Corporatist Oligarchy, with an ever-
increasing number of citizens being incarcerated for dubious reasons, to
be "re-educated" and/or used as slave laborers.

This is what Eisenhower, John and Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King jr.
Bill Hicks, George Carlin, et. al. all saw coming, and tried in their way
to stop it. All of them failed. All of them are now dead.

1. Please explain how vicious attacks on Obama will change ANYTHING.

And then please explain how it is that he is SOOOOOO much worse than the alternative.

which IS the answer to your naive question.

But I'll humor you and spell it out for you --> Obama is providing
"cover" for the steady advancement of this ruling Oligarchy's agenda.

In response to a 2006 post titled, "Drone Aircraft may Prowl US Skies," you wrote:

10. My dad was a career USAF officer and worked for years on the

early (1970s) development and testing of these things. He must be rolling in his grave at the thought of them being used against Americans on American soil (he wasn't any RW nutjob).

....Yet now you not only refrain from criticizing them yourself; you *challenge* posters who express concerns about them:

I'm sure you were equally concerned when Dubya started us down this road, right??

This is exactly the sort of hypocrisy that keeps us unable, as Americans, to unite against policies that are malignant to ALL of us.

40. That's quite a "progressive" record

for a very effective corporate Trojan Horse.

Corporate and bank-cozy appointments, over and over again
Bailouts and settlements for corrupt banks (with personal pressure from Obama to attorneys general to approve them),
Refusal to prosecute even huge, egregious examples of bank fraud (i.e, HSBC)
NDAA to allow indefinite detention,
"Kill lists" and claiming of the right to assassinate even American citizens without trial
Maintaining Guantanamo Bay and the Patriot Act,
Expansion of wars into several new countries
A renewed public support for the concept of preemptive war
Drone campaigns in multiple countries with whom we are not at war
Proliferation of military drones in our skies
Federal targeting of Occupy for surveillance and militarized response to peaceful protesters
Fighting all the way to the Supreme Court for warrantless surveillance
Fighting all the way to the Supreme Court for strip searches for any arrestee
Increase of media consolidation into the hands of corporate giants
Internet-censoring and privacy-violating measures like ACTA and the new CISPA-like executive order
Support for corporate groping and naked scanning of Americans seeking to travel
A new, massive spy center for warrantless access to Americans' phone calls, emails, and internet use
Support of legislation to legalize such spying
Militarized police departments, through federal grants
Marijuana users and medical marijuana clinics under assault,
Skyrocketing of the budget for prisons.
Supporting a bipartisan vote in Congress to gut more financial regulations.
Passionate speeches and press conferences promoting austerity for Americans, while the
Bush tax cuts were extended for billionaires.
Support for the payroll tax holiday, tying SS to the general fund
Support for the vicious chained CPI cut in Social Security and benefits for the disabled
Social security, Medicare, and Medicaid offered up as bargaining chips in budget negotiations, with no mention of cutting corporate welfare or the military budget
Multiple new free trade agreements, including The Trans-Pacific, otherwise known as "NAFTA on steroids."
Growth of the power of lobbyists to prevent government regulation of corporations.
Support of drilling, pipelines, and selling off portions of the Gulf of Mexico
Expansion of military support into Mali
Corporate education policy including high stakes corporate testing and closures of public schools

In every major policy area that interests the one percent (i.e., that can be translated into profits), this administration has fought aggressively for an agenda that would make George W. Bush proud.

46. No, that is the correct answer.

That is how we are manipulated into supporting this shit. They play the lesser of two evils game, offer us two corporate candidates, and expect us to lap it up and be happy because it's never as bad as it could have been.

And the longer people fall for it, tolerate it, and circle the wagons to defend it, the more relentlessly we will be moved into a corporate authoritarian state.

This is what happens when corporations are allowed to purchase influence in governments. They begin to use those governments to enrich themselves. And corporations have only profit as a bottom line. The welfare of the people, or a Bill of Rights, have no place in their calculations about what is the best thing to do.

The Affordable Care Act is a good example, a grand bargain for insurance companies, that's for sure. GE pays no US taxes but J. Immelt was an appointment to Obama's staff. Obama's a master of bait and switch.

4. Bush went to Iraq. President Obama captured OBL whom Bush let go, and 100s of others.

almost all of America was for going after terrorists and most back the Patriot Act or any other method to get them.

Bush went to Iraq to settle a personal score. And it had nothing to do with terrorists.

know the difference.

BTW, are you aware, Bobby and Jack wiretapped Dr. King.
History conviently forgotten from another age.

And Eisenhower started what became Vietnam.Since when should anyone idolize the Republican war monger forerunner of Ronald Reagan in more ways then one.(also according to wiki, there are some weird doings Ike might have done to the German POWs at the end of the war, yeah, that was legal.)

The real hypocrites are the ones that didn't vote for Al Gore in 2000 and believed Ralph Nader.
Those are the real hypocrites IMHO.

Really?

Where can we find these documents?

Where are the numbers that say, "most backed the patriot act"? Did they have a poll of US citizens to ask them?

How does Obama's actions contitute a more transparent government like he said he would do? Was he lying about that? If so, can we say he lies about other things?

But the real problem is not being able to understand that democracy doesn't always get you what you want, but you have keep fighting...sometimes hundreds of years for an inch of progress and you're fighting on a hundred thousand fronts.

WE DO WHAT WE CAN. IT WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH.

But it isn't really helped by having Chicken Little screeching up and down the barnyard.

Do you honestly think there would have been fewer outrages if McCain/Bible Barbie had been elected? Or Romney/Ryan?

Most of us are deeply angry about this shit, all of which has its roots in the paranoid Nixon administration and is being enabled by too many entrenched Republican bureaucrats at all levels of our system.

We just realize it will be much worse should another Republican government arise.

Growing up means sometimes you have to take what you can get, a shit sandwich with a little less shit in it.

Preface
Field manual (FM) 3-39.40 is aligned with FM 3-39, the military police keystone FM. FM 3-39.40 provides
guidance for commanders and staffs on internment and resettlement (I/R) operations. This manual addresses I/R
operations across the spectrum of conflict, specifically the doctrinal paradigm shift from traditional enemy
prisoner of war (EPW) operations to the broader and more inclusive requirements of detainee operations.

Additionally, FM 3-39.40 discusses the critical issue of detainee rehabilitation. It describes the doctrinal
foundation, principles, and processes that military police and other elements will employ when dealing with I/R
populations. As part of internment, these populations include U.S. military prisoners, and multiple categories of
detainees (civilian internees , retained personnel , and enemy combatants), while resettlement
operations are focused on multiple categories of dislocated civilians (DCs).

Military police conduct I/R operations during offensive, defensive, stability, or civil support operations. I/R
operations include military police support to U.S. military prisoner and detainee operations within operational
environments (OEs), ranging from major combat operations to humanitarian-assistance missions in support of a
host nation (HN) or civil agency. I/R operations are a major subordinate Army tactical task under the
sustainment warfighting function. (See FM 7-15.) Placement under the sustainment warfighting function does
not mean that I/R operations do not have relevance in the other warfighting functions. While I/R is listed under
the sustainment warfighting function, it should be noted this is not a specified or implied mission of all
sustainment units or commands. Most sustainment units provide logistics, personnel services, and health service
support to I/R operations.
Military police are uniquely qualified to perform the full range of I/R operations. They have the requisite skill
sets provided through specific training and operational experience. The skills necessary for performing
confinement operations for U.S. military prisoners in permanent facilities are directly transferable and adaptable
for tactical confinement of U.S. military prisoners and detention of detainees. All military police units are
specifically manned, equipped, and trained to perform I/R operations across the spectrum and those identified as
I/R units are the specialists within the Army for this role.

FM 3-39.40 depicts the changes in terminology from the focus on the contiguous battlefield to reflect the types
of operations being conducted in today’s OEs. These changes address the modifications made to previous EPW
processing operations. The terms division forward, central collection point, and corps holding area no longer
apply. They have been replaced with the terms detainee collection point (DCP) (brigade level), detainee
holding area (DHA) (division level), theater internment facility (TIF), and strategic internment facility
(SIF).This manual recognizes the role of police intelligence operations in I/R operations and enhances the
critical importance of military police and military intelligence interaction at all echelons. It further highlights
the long-standing requirement to treat all individuals humanely according to applicable U.S. laws and
regulations, international laws, execution orders, fragmentary orders (FRAGOs), and other operationally
specific guidelines such as Department of Defense (DOD) policies. Moreover, it stipulates that ill treatment of
U.S. military prisoners, detainees (EPWs, CIs, and RP), and DCs is strictly prohibited, regardless of any
circumstances or the chaos of major operations.
FM 3-39.40 aligns with FM 3-0, FM 3-39, FM 7-15, and other Army and joint doctrine, to include Joint
Publication (JP) 3-63. This manual is organized into 10 chapters with 14 appendixes to provide additional
details on I/R topics. Chapters 1 through 3 follow the flow of FM 3-39, and describe the military police function
of I/R operations. Chapters 4 through 6 focus primarily on detainee operations, to include planning, preparing,
executing, and sustaining all I/R operations. Chapters 7 through 10 focus on the confinement of U.S. military
prisoners, rehabilitative programs for U.S. military prisoners and detainees, parole and release or transfer
programs, and resettlement operations for DCs

Excerpt from Introduction:
The goal of military police conducting detainee operations is to provide stability within the population,
its institutions, and its infrastructure. In this rapidly changing and dynamic strategic environment, U.S. forces
will compete with local populations for the same space, routes, and resources. The modular force’s ability to
positively influence and shape the opinions, attitudes, and behaviors of select populations is critical to tactical,
operational, and strategic success.

An adaptive enemy will manipulate populations that are hostile to U.S. intent by instigating mass civil
disobedience, directing criminal activity, masking their operations in urban and other complex terrain,
maintaining an indistinguishable presence through cultural anonymity, and actively seeking the traditional
sanctuary of protected areas as defined by the rules of land warfare.

25. Democrats only care about these things if there is R behind the name.

Obama is almost the messiah. He can do no wrong and saying otherwise will only do _______________(Fill in ominous sounding catastrophy here)

Everyone wants to put him on a pedestal so they can point to him and say, "Look how far we have come, we aren't the same people as when bush was in office, aren't we great".

But when you step back and look at things, you come to realize, things haven't really changed. In fact, a lot of things have become worse. Homelessness, poverty, hunger, pollution, military adventurism to name a few.

But the good news is gays and women can help us kill people in our quest for global domination. YAY!

34. The one percent do not care about social policies

that do not affect their pocketbooks, except to use them as wedge issues to keep Democrats and Republicans hating each other and convinced that the two parties are still worlds apart...

when in reality the two parties are purchased by the same one percent, and they collude on the issues they DO care about, agree upon, and profit from: economic policy, the wars, the police state, education, energy/environmental issues, free trade, etc., etc., etc.

29. Progressive dems are the only ones who do care

It's the conservative and centrist dems that don't, along with every lying, torture supporting repug. But you are very correct in pointing out that millions of Americans aren't even aware of the NDAA or it's implications.

We're a corrupt country now, with torture camps and a propaganda machine that Goebbels could only dream of. It's almost impossible to change it with most of our government only representing the interests of 1%ers. The only way a quick change could occur would be for a president to take some drastic actions, like trying a few war criminals and torturers for their crimes.

That isn't happening and until it does we, as a nation, will continue to go downhill in every single area.

did I hear from Dems or Thugs. This shit has been going down for decades. Just different methods. The government has shut up many people for all different reasons. Especially the whistle blowers. You can't be that naive to think this is some new, big, bad project of Obamas. If you are and do, you need to do some research, honey child.

Too many progressives turn a blind eye when a dem is in office. I believe that Obama was a better option than Romney but he isn't a true progressive. He let Bushco off the hook. His admin runs cover for the banksters and let the Occupy people get abused by police. This drone thing stinks.

Colbert as President would be better for Americans.
Funny screen name aside.

Anybody interested in doing the most good for the many would be better.

Drones are more surgical than the meat axe that is war, true. But it seems to be doing more harm than good. Just like Obama's staff, cabinet selections and nominations. Ideology has shifter to the Military Industrial Complex, from the "I have a dream"-ers.

But if you dare to say that truth here, you get deleted for violating the TOS. True Democrats are oppressed even here. Pointing out the elephant in the livingroom here isn't welcome.

50. This is from the Introduction....

QUOTE:

"I/R operations facilitate the ability to conduct rapid and decisive combat operations; deter, mitigate, and defeat threats to populations that may result in conflict; reverse conditions of human suffering; and build the capacity of a foreign government to effectively care for and govern its population".

You did understand that this manual is for use in foreign countries, right?

I'm sorry, but this post smacks of what we're constantly hearing from extreme far-right separatist groups.
