I'd suggest your 'reading comprehension' is somewhat lacking. As well as your tolerance for people who hold different beliefs and traditions than you.

Dismissing centuries of a culture's medicine, including acupuncture, as 'quack science' is ignorant and rude.

Because you've ignored the truth of what I said - that Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture is being dismissed as 'quackery' - and are just being snarky. I'd love to know what you're referring to. You've got the majority at your back in this thread, so feel free to continue with rude snipes, but I'd love to know what you're talking about if you can do so without snark.

And the very simple fact that the list of ingredients on the label often bears so little resemblance to the actual contents of the package that the most likely conclusion is the placebo effect is the only thing at work.

Accupuncture may well work. A hell of a lot of the rest is PURE SNAKE OIL BUNKUM straight off a dropside wagon.

Acupuncture has proved too work BUT it worked as good as in the control group where the needles were placed in random places.
Beside placebo I can imagine pain can have had an effect too as it's releasing dopamine.
So the voodoo about acupuncture is the same SNAKE OIL as all the other magic stuff.

He was at least 18 and I had to carry him outside. After acupuncture sessions, he was able to walk just fine again - and it was non invasive. And while I was at the clinic, I met a Golden Retriever who was paralyzed. Two ladies bought her in on a stretcher. That pup was able to wag her tail at me, she was improving, too.

What a heartwarming story! Thanks for sharing, Rhiannon!

People often ask me, "How do you keep your dog from moving around during acupuncture?". But actually, she becomes very relaxed -- and even falls asleep -- during treatment. Which I'm told is very common.

The thing to be careful about is when she wakes up and wants to have a good full-body shake. Needles flying everywhere!

43. Actually, my first experience with pet acupuncture was for my cat
Mon Apr 12, 2021, 02:00 AM

My local vet sent us for a second opinion and the vet there recommended acupuncture on our first visit. I'd experienced acupuncture myself, tried it in an effort to avoid surgery. I still had the surgery with the encouragement of my acupuncture doctor, but came back to that doctor to help me heal post-surgery.

One wouldn't think that most cats would tolerate acupuncture, but my cat was amazingly fine. Since it was unexpected, she was on a table at the back of the clinic where other things were going on. And I watched several vet techs trying to subdue a cat, trying to give him/her a shot. While my cat was on another table receiving acupuncture having fallen asleep. After that, I knew it would be fine for my dog.

I also think that climate denial & doomerism could use a spot as well; these two types of woo are in a class by themselves.

And also, what about racial eugenics? You cannot talk about Irrational Nonsense without mentioning what is perhaps one of the best examples of such, ever!

Overall, it's pretty funny, and mostly spot on, but there are very serious scientists, excellent scientists, who study folk remedies, and some important medications have resulted, and in fact, pharmaceutical science originated there with things like digoxin, digitoxin, and antibiotics.

At different points my life, particularly as a young man in California, I explored some of these. I grew up, of course, but I perfectly understand how people can "go there."

I know many people, even now - including some I love - who are still very much invested in some of these things. In most cases, out of respect for diversity, I tend to let them ride, unless, of course, they cause harm.

Post Trump, some new "heavy" elements have been discovered and could be added to the table.
