Money talks in American politics....

?4c9b33

^^^^This is why incredibly unpopular policies-like tax cuts for the rich, draconian austerity measures, wars for profit, privatized public services, and "Right-to-work" policies-are seen as the "prudent thing to do" in Washington.

The monied political class (of BOTH parties, for the record) see themselves as the rightful rulers of the country, just like any social elite has throughout history. They are the "winners" in society, who have been rewarded for their "hard work" and "personal responsibility" with money, status, and power.

The rest of us? We can go to hell, as far as they're concerned. For an increasingly large group of people, American economic and political conditions are the Earthly equivalent of hell.
