Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

I regard fugitive Christopher Dorner as a very remote threat, but tonight I will arm myself

If he gets past my Attack Cats, he'll have to deal with a wild-eyed database developer armed with a Ruger 10/22 rifle and a Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver.

Once he is captured or killed by the police, I will put my weapons back in the gun safe along with my baseball card collection and classic porn mags.

Sent him a text message.

And I was at the coffee shop...it was unreal. This was quite possibly on of the largest pd mobilizations in the county.

Tonight we were exchanging notes.

Being the target of an insane person who is heavily armed really does suck.

20. Yeah. I'm in the San Fernando Valley.

This is sort of weirdly fascinating but at the same time sort of a big yawn. I guess if I ran across him I'd be polite and ask to hear his story and make sympathetic noises.

But he won't show up here. Big Bear is FAR. And he's probably in Vegas by now anyway.

22. also i assume i have more of a chance of dying in so many other ways

maybe a month back or so i was driving and they closed off a section of the fwy i was on with a bunch of cops going around searching for some guys who robbed some bank or something. i wasn't scared even then, even with the cops with their guns out going around.

it could just be because of living in the la area we always have crap going on.

i'm get more scared of things like driving while it's raining.

Or is this a new vehicle since this afternoon?

And no fears on my end. I'm in OC. Can't imagine he would decide to hide or hunt in my neighborhood.

27. Nah--the blue Nissan is the van that was shot up--27 times, I read--

by cops, wounding two elderly Asian women who were delivering newspapers.

It was a vehicle. It had tires. Apparently that was close enough for them to assume Dorner was in it, so they shot the holy heck out of it--and the women.

This one has my head spinning. I can't keep up. My daughter and I were talking on the way home from work about the two innocent women. So fucked up. I haven't had a very solid report that covers everything as yet. How are they doing? Do you know? My daughter was pretty upset. I was hoping to give her good news.

29. One was just shot in the hand. The other in the back--twice, if the article I read

is correct. But I have not read anything that says the one shot in the back has died, so I am hoping the wounds were not life-threatening or paralyzing. Can you imagine how frightened those poor women will be now about ever going anywhere?

If I see any blue cars, they better watch out. I launched an RPG at a teal Nissan Sentra this morning, I know teal might be kind of borderline, but I'm not taking any chances with my or my child's life.

Early in the morning there will be a vehicle driving slowly through the neighborhood. The person in the vehicle will be taking aim at some houses as he drives by . . . to deliver newspapers.

31. As long as you know how your firearms operate that is fine.

Some years ago an escapee from prison raped three women in my home town including the wife and daughter of our family physician who lived several blocks away. In addition he abducted two women. The National Guard, Highway Patrol, several sheriff agencies, including several helicopters looked for him for three days. When I came home to visit the second day my mother was sitting in the kitchen with a short barreled single shot 12 gage on the kitchen table. The hammer was pulled back and there was a slug in the chamber sitting on kitchen table pointed at the side door. Her second round was OO buck shot I freaked we put the shotgun up and I thanked God there was no collateral damage. My brother set up our Mothers self defense strategy we had a long talk afterward in that she did not know exactly how this worked.

Stay safe.

57. 20 gauge pump shotgun with number 3 shot ammo is a better choice for home defense.

Relatively tight pattern at 10-15 yards and limited penetration will decrease chance of shooting through plaster board walls but still plenty of stopping power. And even in the dark you will not miss the rabid raccoon in the backyard, a far more likely threat than any intruder.
