TN bill would require woman to view ultrasound before abortion

TN bill would require woman to view ultrasound before abortion

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Tennessee lawmaker's proposal that would require women to undergo ultrasounds before having an abortion is raising questions and gaining national attention.

Some accuse the bill's main sponsor of only introducing the bill to help an election, but State Sen. Jim Tracy, R-Shelbyville, said he believes all women considering an abortion should experience the same medical process as other future parents.

"This decision she is going to make on whether to have an abortion is a life-altering decision," Tracy said. "It's a big decision, and this gives her the opportunity to be informed before she makes this life-altering decision."

Tracy's bill would require a transabdominal ultrasound before getting an abortion. If the woman doesn't want to look at the ultrasound, a medical technician must describe the ultrasound image to her in detail.

Opponents of the bill contend Tracy is only bringing it up because he's challenging U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais in the 4th District Republican primary next year.

I think all the GOP controlled states are working out of the same playbook.

p.s. IMO, and if any of these states trying to pass this BS do get the law passed then The State should have to pay the bill for the procedure, not the woman!

people to view photos of dead children before they can purchase a gun? We want to make sure they understand the possible ramifications of their choice to buy a weapon.

Do these assholes really think women are too stupid to understand what an abortion is without seeing an ultrasound?

I know the intent: they'll throw this image of a perfect little miniature baby on the screen and the woman seeking an abortion will instantly jump off the table, run home and set up a nursery for her rapist's child.

The problem is, at the gestational timespan most abortions are performed in, it looks more like a 50-count shrimp than it does a baby.

Also, what will they ever do when a substantial number of mandated pre-abortion ultrasounds turn up tubal pregnancies, fetus in fetu, anencephaly and other conditions that are treated with abortion because the women who choose abortion also choose to jump a Greyhound to Chicago?
