"Women delivering newspapers in Torrance shot in manhunt for ex-cop" WTF????

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2013/02/ex-cop-manhunt-newspaper-delivery-women-shot.html

Two women who were shot by Los Angeles police in Torrance early Thursday during a massive manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer were delivering newspapers, sources said.
The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said. They were not identified. One was shot in the hand and the other in the back, according to Jesse Escochea, who captured video of the victims being treated.

It was not immediately known what newspapers the women were delivering. After the shooting, the blue pickup was riddled with bullet holes and what appeared to be newspapers lay in the street alongside.

How the HELL do you mistake two women for a 300-lb man?

This whole story smells ....

1. Well, you see, it's like this:

The suspect was reportedly driving a pickup, and this pickup drives by, so of course the police did the only appropriate thing, which is to open fire on it from behind and put at least 50 bullet holes in it. There was no need to check to see who was in the vehicle because it obviously was him.

Except it wasn't. Pickup was the wrong make and color, and there were two elderly Asian women in it. But it was a close enough match for them, so they shot to kill.

Those women are very lucky. The cops clearly intended to kill whoever was in the pickup.

8. If you notice, too, they shot up the driver, passenger and bed of the truck.

An attempt to kill absolutely every living thing in it. Imagine if it had been Dorner and he'd had one or more hostages.

I thought that was especially telling.

12. Those women are VERY lucky to be alive. And they were never given any chance to stop and

identify themselves.

4. They also shot at a person in a Honda truck by mistake.

It was black not grey and the wrong make and mode too. Oops.

At least they didn't hit the person inside with a bullet, however they did cause an accident between the them and the Honda.

You can't make up stuff as wild as reality when the LAPD is involved.

7. They get caught all the time. They're Teflon coated though.

They get away with so much they just keep on being corrupt. Why not when it's worked so well for them for decades now?

P.S. I meant Honda truck above. I just saw my mistake and am editing.

16. I don't know if your sarcasm was aimed directly at me or the situation

but I wanted to point out that there was no need for the police to shoot at the truck, since they'd already stopped it by ramming it.

Everyone all up in arms about drones should be up in arms about this too. The LAPD has put out a hit on this guy and innocent people are getting hurt in the process. I don't see the difference between that and drones.

20. Oh, not to worry, it wasn't aimed at you. It was aimed at the

once-again-trigger-happy police.

And yes, they HAVE put a hit out on him. He will never get a chance at a trial, let alone a fair one. They WILL kill him, even if he tries to surrender.

He did the unforgiveable. He ratted them out, and then he killed one of them.

15. Thank you for that clarification.

I'd read it way earlier and there weren't such details then.

I'm not surprised thats how it went down. It does make me think the driver is extra lucky he wasn't hit by gunfire though.

The LAPD is going to be paying out a fortune in lawsuit monies. Again.

9. Their truck "matched the description" of Dorner's truck. Right, Dorner drives a Nissan

and they were driving a Toyota. Oh wait, both trucks were dark. That's 'matching the description' for our Keystone Coppers.

14. Well, when you're all hopped up on meth and coke that you've

confiscated from some of the other LA gangs, you might be forgiven for mistaking electric blue for dark.

(with a nod towards the original tip-of-the-iceberg Ramparts allegations)

26. It could have been worse ...

... these cops could have been 'guarding' children in a local elementary school where women who looked like these two were teachers.

After all the only way to stop innocent women is with a couple of cops with guns.

28. An elegant illustration of police priorities.

If they themselves are threatened, they will pull out all stops to "get the guy" even if it means shooting little old lady's in the back -Oooops, but better safe than sorry.
