Well Lookie Here: "Nearly Every Voter (92%) Supports Universal Gun Background Checks"-Only 7% Oppose

Nearly Every Voter Supports Universal Gun Background Checks
By: Jon Walker Thursday February 7, 2013 8:20 am

There are more Americans who claim to have personally seen a UFO (11%) than oppose background checks.

To say that support for universal background checks for gun sales is overwhelming would be an understatement. A new Quinnipiac poll shows that almost every registered voter backs the policy change.

According to the poll, 92 percent of voters nationwide support background checks for all gun buyers, only 7 percent oppose background checks. I cannot think of a single issue in any political polling that has ever been so one-sided.

Just to show how incredibly fringe the opposition to universal background checks is I went looking for things that poll higher. For example more Americans donít believe President Obama was born in the United States (17%) than oppose background checks. Twice as many Americans think the Sun revolves around the Earth (18%) as oppose background checks. There are even more Americans who claim to have personally seen a UFO (11%) than oppose background checks.

Nearly every regular American supports this commonsense reform. It may be one of the least controversial ideas proposed in decades. The fact that there is a real chance Congress may not approve it shows how unbelievably powerful the gun manufacturer lobby is.

1. That's an amazing number

I doubt one could get 92% on

"I like pizza"

"Puppies are cute"

...and similar propositions.

2. I think Saddam Houssein had better numbers than opposing background checks

Can we please pass this now?

3. About the same percentage want the banks investigated and we

see how well that is working. The "public" can "want" whatever; the politicians will do whatever buys them another term.

5. Thats no surprise.

There have been several polls that indicate strong support from gun owners in legislation that helps prevent guns from getting in the wrong hands. Tightening up background checks is one of those measures. It does not place undue measures on legal gun owners, and would have a measurable impact.
There would be much greater opposition to banning types of guns, rising quickly if proposed measures would be deemed ineffective, while targetng the vast majority of legal gun owners.
Repealing the 2A is right out. It would take only 13 states voting against to block repealing or modifying the 2A. I can't name 13 states that would even support it. Proposals of such are a pipedream.

6. in other news...water is wet

I'm a gun owner and I support universal background checks as long as the cost isn't manipulated to be so high it is used as an end around to the 2nd.

Set it up so that private owners and sellers can go to the local gun store and get the buyer an instant, free, check and I'm all for it.

11. Yeah, so what's your point? We live in a republic not a democracy.

We elect representatives to do our thinking for us. It's a good system and requires very little brain use on the part of the masses. Now you want to stir up trouble. The elite rule for a reason. They, by definition, are smarter than the masses. So, they will decide what's best for us, most likely w/o our input. So stop stirring up trouble.

12. It's still not going to happen. The noisy 8% doesn't want it, and

Congress is too afraid of being shot to challenge them.
