For those that quote Benjamin Franklin...why aren't you consistent?

I keep hearing Franklin's quote about keeping it, and I answer with Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson wrote all MEN are created equal and was talking about perhaps 40% OF THE PEOPLE THERE at that time
He neglected to mention blacks, women and slaves

Then they forgive Jefferson and say he is a product of his time, blah blah blah blah blah blah

So, if Thomas Jefferson's words then have to be formulated different in 2013 from their ABSOLUTE MEANING

then it goes without saying, That Benny's statement on "it's theirs if they can keep it"
needs to be applied to 2013 terms

and in 2013, to keep it, different means need to be applied.
Drones for instance, and to reinterpret in 2013 what the 2nd means

You can't dismiss Jefferson being a vile person, just make that hand motion to wave it by,
without also changing Franklin's meaning.

Get it?

this ain't you grandfathers or great grandfathers or even father's USA.
This is 2013.
real bad things happen now, that aren't from the old cold war countries and old 1700s or 1800s days.

This is 2013
Please enter the modern age.
stop partying like its 1799.

Thank you and of course, this is IMHO only, feel free to argue it.

also, vice presidents and other leaders no longer have duels in the street with guns(or whatever the 'ell you call what they shot at each other with).

1. You're right - we should bring back dueling.

I mean, there would be some where and tear on our elected officials, but that's what we pay them for, isn't it? Good point graham4anything.

As for the founding fathers you take them like you take any wise historical figure - sometimes they made some good points, but they were products of their time. Doesn't mean their statements don't still have some relevance.

12. just one of these is a waste of day for someone in a wellness program. 300 plus calories

It is probably about 300 calories plus in each little one

Better to have a salad.

NO dressing though. Zero calories in a salad with no dressing.

Why do people wish to ruin a salad with a bucket of goo on top of it?

Either lettuce tastes good or it doesn't.

16. He was opposed to slavery

How do you know who he meant and who he didn't?

The general consensus of slavery at the time was that it wasn't the business of the federal government and was the states responsibility to regulate or allow slavery. The fact that slavery was left out of the constitution means nothing, it was not accidental. have you read any of the federalist papers?

18. Ben's possibly apocryphal statement

Has been proven true, we could not keep it, corporations and the MIC have taken the reigns, and are the true powers in this country.
While we fight over firearms and ideas of womens reproductive rights and drone strikes, the truly rich continue to pull away in the race. The working poor and middle class stagnate, and in a society like ours stagnation is decline. the PTB have set us against each other to squabble over minutiae while they rob us, rape the planet, destroy nations, cultures and people and feast on the result of our labors.
The disgusting joke of corporate personhood, the perversion of taking an amendment that was to make men free, and using it to enslave steal and murder... This alone shows we have failed to keep our Republic.

19. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure- Ben Franklin

Benny said that.
Meaning he would be for drones and he would have done what Lincoln did.
(he would be called Benny today, or maybe just B

but then if he were alive today, he would be a paid endorser of a plumbing company in NJ
He would probably be doing ads for toilet paper or something, for all we know
He was a printer, might have been one of those designer toilet paper printers

and he probably would have worked for a big corporation, or owned one himself

Don't like corporate personhood, well, that alone laid to rest what Nader said about both being the same.

Trying to put what Benny said in 2013 terms, with negating what Tommy said back then, is like having only one constant,
in an every changing constant world. It can't happen.

Putting a halo on these people, and digging for clues in antiquidated statements, is reading tea leaves.
NOBODY can speak for Franklin or Jefferson.

Most likely Lincoln would have been a fan of President Obama.
Jefferson probably would have loved Richard Nixon and not HHH in 1968

we can't say.

20. Of all the people to remark on "Putting a halo on these people"

The head of the King Bloomie fan club, and worshiper of LBJ.

I am floored by your double standard, Lincoln was an opportunist, a tyrant and the epitome of ends justifying the means. The Emancipation Proclamation was not in any way altruistic. It was a strategic and political decision, aimed at Europe and its considerations of recognition of the South.

His Suspension of Habeas Corpus? I am sure you are fine with that as well..

Jefferson was a bloodthirsty tyrant, and his thirst was not even slaked by the violence of the terror. He would have cheered your guy Lyndon's escalation of the war In SE Asia, probably pushed for the bombings of Haiphong and Hanoi to be nuclear.

As for Bonhomme Richard..He was a printer, an inventor and a scientist with a quick wit.. just as likely he would have been another Julian Assange, or considering his known peccadilloes, another Larry Flynt. Maybe a Bill Maher or Lenny Bruce, because reading his bio and quotes, he was a funny and insightful guy.
