AP: U.S. Postal Service To Discontinue Saturday Mail Delivery

AP: U.S. Postal Service To Discontinue Saturday Mail Delivery

In an effort to trim costs, the U.S. Postal Service on Wednesday will announce that it will no longer deliver mail on Saturdays, the Associated Press reported.

The decision has been long anticipated for the cash-strapped USPS. According to the AP, the government service is expected to say that the elimination of Saturday mail delivery will result in annual savings of about $2 billion. The USPS will continue to deliver packages six days a week.

3. 'cash strapped' because they have to do something no other company has to..

.. pre-pay 75 years worth of pensions.

Remove that pig ignorant requirement and the USPS would be in the black.

4. 2 big changes that threw it over the cliff

1982 postage ceased as being taxation and and became postal products

2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act

Since our only mail delivery is a tiny post office with limited hours, I have written many letters that one way to ease cost would be to give us rural delivery, no building maintenance, no rent, utilites, lawn/snow service, no clerk for the postmaster. Their reply, older folks need a place to buy stamps, huh? you can buy them at any convenience store. In a five mile radius we have 6 post offices at this end of the county, of late, they have combined 2. For years we had to pay for our po box, until I wrote letters telling them if I had a box nailed to my house, I would not have to pay yearly rental. Poorly managed in the very rural sector.

Don't even get me started on my address...took me 6 wks. to get a drivers license after Homeland Security requires a street address, I do not have one.
We are not in the database for USPS, FedEx or UPS....grrrrr
