What I've Learned In The Nearly 24 Hours Since The Drone "White Paper" Story Broke...

For those of us who speculated, surmised, intuited, predicted, or guessed... that this shit was going on...

Hundreds of replies... hundreds of demands for proof... hundreds of "shame on you" and "why are you even here?"

Now that there seems to be some sort of "proof"...

Not so much.

Am I surprised ???

Not one bit.

That the conditions for use of drones has been codified? Or proof that Obama is assassinating his political enemies?

2. You must be a terrorist sympathizer, how can you object to killing our enemies??

3. "Obama-hater!"

it's too bad there wasn't a drone dropped on OBL two weeks before he laid out the plans
and started the ball rolling on 9-11.

37. soon as I heard this story, I knew the usuals would post about it.Why not quote Jefferson?

the old same old same old same soundbytes that Nader used in 2000.

I remember people said W would never leave office
A helicopter taking him to Texas on 1/17/2008 proved that forever wrong.

There are no borders in 2013.

Why don't people quote Jefferson? Jefferson said all Men are created Equal.
Yet not black men or women.
Why don't people quote him?

49. Thanks to LBJ and Martin Luther King Jr. of course.

there but for protest voters in 1968, LBJ would have won a glorious victory over Nixon.

but then some people didn't like Lincoln either.Same with Carter. Same with President Obama.

the odd thing is, Lincoln, LBJ, Carter, Obama. 4 of the 5 greatest Presidents, yet all of them had major haters.
Why do you think that is?

I think because they are so great people just don't want greatness.
If everything were great, what would people whine about?

IMHO

59. Were you around protesting in the 1960s and 1970s?

In retrospect comes seeing what was done then is not the way to do it now.

and the bullsheet of Bush=Gore, Bush=Kerry, Bush=anyone philosophy is just that. Bull.

Nobody else would have gotten those acts signed. LBJ did what others only talked about or dreamed about. However, only LBJ used his capital to do so, and proudly did so.

And do you know how many barriers have been broken in just 4 years since President Obama took office? Gay marriage, Women's rights, Rights of all minority groups.Rights of children to have health care coverage. All are better now than they were four years ago.
Is it perfect? No, but who said it was.

Of course, without the LBJ voting rights acts, he couldn't even have voted, let alone become President.

but yeah, let's give the reins to Jeb. Sure.

10% gain is better than 100% of nothing.

btw, don't you think that President Obama would love to get the republicans themselves to overturn the Patriot act and on record say everything done by Bush was wrong?
In the haste to hate President Obama, people are forgetting that everything is for a reason.
The ten step ahead foresight.
Seeing things in the future, and achieving it, and not just wanting it.

You just have to be patient.
It took 45 years after LBJ that year by year they have been tearing down.
Takes time to get it back.

51. Wow, you think they wanted those people to be saved?

Dang man, they wanted a war. A long expensive war that would drain the treasury and benefit the Military Industrial Security Complex. And they got just that. For them, a few thousand people were a small price to pay for the riches that would follow!

From the NY Times.

That is, unless it was read in conjunction with the daily briefs preceding Aug. 6, the ones the Bush administration would not release. While those documents are still not public, I have read excerpts from many of them, along with other recently declassified records, and come to an inescapable conclusion: the administration’s reaction to what Mr. Bush was told in the weeks before that infamous briefing reflected significantly more negligence than has been disclosed. In other words, the Aug. 6 document, for all of the controversy it provoked, is not nearly as shocking as the briefs that came before it.

The direct warnings to Mr. Bush about the possibility of a Qaeda attack began in the spring of 2001. By May 1, the Central Intelligence Agency told the White House of a report that “a group presently in the United States” was planning a terrorist operation. Weeks later, on June 22, the daily brief reported that Qaeda strikes could be “imminent,” although intelligence suggested the time frame was flexible.

I've also learned that we don't have the whole story. Given the 'ink', we all will hear more about this in coming days, and maybe even why.
Despite what you think you know, Obama IS NOT Bush; there had to be a reason. We probably won't agree with it, but a thorough explanation would be helpful, something we haven't got yet.

This totalitarian power grab should outrage ALL Americans.

When will we stop taking the partisan bait to excuse the inexcusable? This is how the one percent win, by making sure that we hate each other more than what they are doing to us.....By making sure that we never have a unified opposition, even to nascent totalitarianism.

When will we have had enough, that we stand up together, as Americans, regardless of party, to oppose this shit?

When?

we should defend it? The dripping sarcasm tag is not adequate here.

And THIS, my friends, is how extreme and absurd, both morally and logically, the partisan propaganda machine has become. How blind our hatred is cultivated to be. And the one percent depend on us to lap it up, because a country unified against this shit is unthinkable to them.

This is the same craven bid the one percent always uses to keep us defending the indefensible, when coming together against what is obscenely wrong could not be more important.

40. Textbook example of how we are played in this partisan game.

First, ignore my question, and instead twist it. The question is no longer whether ANY President should have this power, but rather WHICH President would you prefer to have it? What utter garbage. And made even more absurd by ignoring the glaring fact that this power will be available to every unknown future President, as well.

And second, stoke intense, dehumanizing hatred for the red team, so that it becomes more important to defend *anything* the Blue Team does than to stand even for the most fundamental rights and freedoms we are supposed to be guaranteed by the Constitution. Attempt to conflate the Republican leadership (who, by the way, SUPPORT these power grabs and take turns with corporate Democrats implementing them whenever they are in power) with anyone who might be posting against this outrage on the internet and dismiss them all as subhuman Red Team members who "don't care about anything" and hate women.

Anything to get us to circle the wagons. Anything to get us to excuse the inexcusable. *Especially* when there is a chance of the one percent's worst nightmare: that Americans will decide, together, that our Constitution matters and that we will not tolerate this shit anymore.

The one percent play this game very, very well.

Standing next to a Republican (or Libertarian) or opposing anything the Blue Team does is supposed to be more viscerally offensive to you than *anything.* And I mean ANYTHING....up to and including the shredding of our Constitution and the extrajudicial murder of Americans by any sitting President from now on.

That's how perverse and obscene the one percent's partisan propaganda has become, that keeps us divided and unable to launch a unified opposition to anything they do. This is the sick garbage we are fed every single day.

30. Proof of what??? Congress authorized this years ago. Ever hear of 9-11? 3000 REAL people died

As I live in the NY area, there was a big hole in the ground for a decade.

It wasn't a theory. It was real.

That event caused the bankrupting of the USA

46. Who are you using for medium to channel those three thousand people

to ask if they would be ok if Obama killed people extrajudicially? I'm sure OBL could have hired a lawyer to give him awhile paper to justify attacking the TT and pentagon. Together they have created a lot of misery in the world.

Or are you doing a bush and trying to advance your own agenda with the death of three thousand people?

53. Do you rather have a man to man war and have 1,000,000 die in 20 years?

Richard Clarke, whom everyone loved when he devastated Bush after 9-11,
said last month that drones are the single most humane form of warfare.

The equation you make is false.

Because any other method could lead to millions dead. PLUS any collateral.

Whereas, had a drone dropped on Hitler a week before the first prisoner was taken or killed,
20 million people would have been saved.(including a relative of mine who didn't make the journey my other relatives did in the early days of the Holocaust while they could still get out).

Seems logical to me a well placed drone would have been a good thing, no?

Besides, we are not asking if, IT ALREADY IS.
Congress authorized it.
The Supreme Court upheld it.

You know the court, the one Ralph Nader said was just peachy keen when he threw the election to Bush. (now Ralphie didn't say that, but by not doing anything, he indicated the court was fine by him, being that he threw NH to Bush and his drivel on both parties are the same (just like Ron Paul's spiel) allows people to feel why bother.

So the complaints are misfired to the wrong people.

But protest voters keep doing the same thing. As if they were wheels on a bus going round and round.

How many thrown elections is it going to take to see that it backfired every single time
and will lead directly to Jeb.

Tell me, will Jeb get rid of the Patriot Act?
And without the Patriot Act, which is just a MacGuffin anyhow, would life be perfect in the world?

Would school shootings stop if there were no Patriot Act?
Would everyone be a millionaire without the Patriot Act?

What do you think would be different without it?

Or is it just a cutsy soundbyte, like the abysmal tear it down, but have no idea what will stand in its place once its burnt to the ground?
Enquiring minds would like to know that.

It's all great and all.
if a Patriot Act is gotten rid of,But will it stop the Timothy McCowards and Zimmerman's?

Just what do you think America would be like without it?

Do you really think it would be any different from today?

As you know, Elizabeth Warren herself said everything has to be on the table with Iran.
(you do know she said that, right?)

BTW, what is the difference between a drone getting one person, and what Truman did getting how many people?
Answer: the air is cleaner without the radioactive fallout, and a select few died, instead of thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands, which would have also included the person the drone was meant for, and the few collateral around them.

right?

because getting rid of the patriot act, will NOT stop wars. That indeed is a false equation.
War will go on regardless, here there and everywhere, and I am sure you are not one of those who want to isolate the USA and throw away the keys.
The world is us. We are the world. It is one world and we all reside on it.

58. Omg. The hitler / sniper dilemma.

Oh no, what to do. Hitler did not kill all those people by himself. You do realize the don't you

Should the Nina, Pinta and the Santa Maria sank in the Atlantic? Imagine the countless suffering that would have prevented.

Should all women have LBD's.

I mean, if we are going throw out random asinine questions lets go full tilt.

60. actually, yes, it was a one person show.

without the boss, there was no underlings.

when he died, they died.
(yes some like Jorg Haider try to revive it, though thankfully Jorg had too much to drink on his first night after election.)

but yes, it was a one man show with Hitler.
there would have been no movement, without him. He was the man with the plan, and first came the plan, then he delegated the positions under him.

Because, if it wasn't all his show, then why did it start with him, and end when he did?

and again, would have saved my family a lot of grief and all when Hitler tossed them out of Austria.

Too bad a drone wasn't dropped on him two weeks before the first bad thing happened there.

IMHO, as always feel free to disagree.

50. No, it was authorized in 1789.

The president can assassinate anyone, as long as it's outside US jurisdiction. This has been the case since the Constitution was originally signed.

The only thing reigning it in at the moment is an Executive Order signed by Ford saying "we don't do that".

Now I wish I'd paid a little more attention - I am woefully under-informed when it comes to this topic.

You've got a long history of lying about Democrats and not saying a negative word about Republicans. You've built yourself quite the reputation, so don't be surprised if people doubt your credibility.

67. I'll kick it for ya. This's been circulating for awhile now. I didn't dare post it here. Folks like

to scream it's conspiracy unless HuffPo and a few other designated media sources say otherwise. Problem is these sources are just like Fox and choose to hush a lot of important news.

This would have been ripped apart if it were Bush, and rightfully so. Murdering Americans with no warrant, no trial, with no proven ties to terrorists. This is a really, really bad thing, especially so coming from one of ours. Where's the uproar?

Glad it finally hit mainstream news. Thanks for posting it.

72. We have always been at war with Eurasia.

"Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct; nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record. All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary."
