I saw a look on Letterman's face I never saw before...

Gov. Christie was so gracious, kind and funny that David had a steak of conscience. He was deeply bothered by this totally gentle response to all his vicious jokes over such a long time...he's been so mean about Christie all this time, and Christie was so complimentary toward Dave, even saying how his daughter loved him, and that Dave was his favorite late nite host.

Gov. Christie, please change parties!!!

1. Christie is pretty far to the right.

I realize that some elected Democrats are, too, but do we really want our party to move to that far right?

3. Nope. Christie can stay where he is.

He came out and criticized his own over Hurricane Sandy, but it does not mean that we have to be his friend. He won't be ours in 2014 or later.

I'm not sure why we as Dems and Progressives want anything to do with moving rightward. If the party moves right it forgets where it has come from and is no longer liberal.

The party can't have it both ways.

24. And math challenged 100%

Sorry, couldn't resist. Next time I feel the urge, I will put 110% effort into stopping the snark.

Oooops, I mean 100%.

5. Maybe embarrassment would have been a better choice...

Christie was surprisingly "forgiving" for all insulting jokes, and I think it kind of threw Dave off balance for a while....he really didn't expect it.

4. Christie should stay in his own party

Just because he's not being the bombastic asshole he was last year, doesn't mean anything has changed fundamentally. He should stay a republican as far as I am concerned. We don't need more conservatives.

6. People change after catastrophes

when you find out who your friends really are....and his family has feelings, no doubt, about their dad's political party.

16. perhaps, but I don't think 6 months is long enough to decide that change has actually happened

It is great that he is doing things a little differently, and he does seem to care about the people in his state, more so than other GOPers, but that does not make him a dem. He should work on reforming his own party.

7. Christie Vetoed A Raise in the Minimum Wage & Same-Sex Marriage Bills - He's RW

He's just as right-wing as McConnell, Boehner, and the rest of the lot of Republicans. He just plays compassionate well and doesn't act crazy or vindictive in public. No telling what evil crap he's doing when he's out of site.

Thanks for your comments. I just wish that a couple of you had watched the program (he did well on SNL with Seth Myers as well)..

15. I'd be ok with Christie going Independent...

There just isn't any place for him in the Democratic Party. He wouldn't be trusted in a leadership position and he wouldn't be happy without a leadership position.

17. He's good for a Republican. That doesn't make him good overall.

I think he's more genuine than pretty much all of the nationally known Republicans, but his policy positions don't much differ. I'd feel a little better if more Republicans were like Christie, but I'd feel a LOT better if more Republicans were voted out of office.

Cause I know I'm not the only Democrat who has no desire to welcome Christie into our party.

21. Did Christy just propose cutting Social Security after spending the previous year vowing not to?

Did he just implement a permanent tax cut for those earning $399,000 a year or less?

Did he ram through a Heritage Foundation healthcare plan with a freaking mandate?

Let's not talk like we have some kind of gold standard of liberalism running our own party. If Christy's a hardcore Conservative what the hell do we have?

In any case he's not my governor and I don't know a lot about him. But one thing that has always struck me about the guy is this: he is not afraid of anyone. The guy told Romney and the entire GOP noise machine to get bent the week of the election. That was the biggest political bitch slap I have ever seen in my life. He did the same thing to the Tea Party back when they were new and strong.

Anyway, I am not saying I like the guy. I doubt I would. But if he wants to come to our team and FIGHT FOR US, I will welcome him with (really wide) open arms. At least he would fight.

23. is it ok if someone can be an ok person and likable but totally wrong on some issues politically ?

i have said before that Christie is just an example of how bad most republicans have become. that we are surprised by someone like him who can be decent. it doesn't mean they should be democrats or shouldn't be criticized on issues.
