And it seems to be dying with this generation. Bear in mind that Japan is not the only whaling nation.

an animal so large and mysterious. But you're right, hopefully that feeling of empire is a generational thing that gets lost on the younger generation who move away from the traditional Japan in this sense.

When Japan ends it's unprofitable hunting Norway and Iceland may very well follow. My understanding is that few people in these countries eat whale meat. It's certainly not wanted in most if not all Western countries. It is illegal in most.
