I never watch the Super Bowl

But this power outage is a sign of where we are infrastructure wise. Between CNN and CBS.

The story will not be who wins, but how much we have to invest...and I expect the power company to blame everybody but...

the outage..

Did it or did it not change everything?

(edit: Not that I think there's much chance)

38. Are you operating under the assumption that there is a light switch that someone tripped?

I think power distribution to an enormous stadium is complicated enough for there
to be some doubt about what really happened.

Jesus.

Now, did the lights stay on, or did the infrastructure delivering power to the stadium fail?

Not to my knowledge.

So...what's that tell you?

Exactly.

I'm sure an actual example of crumbling infrastructure will happen very soon, however, and you can
have that climax you crave.

It's powered by the same 110v plugs in the nearby houses.

25. Since the power failure seems to have been confined to the stadium

and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome has had $336 million dollars in repairs and upgrades since 2006 I find it a stretch to cite this event as an example of aging failing infrastructure.

BTW, that's more money than the place cost in the 1st place even adjusting for inflation.

30. No, the people who bought the material are.

A stadium should be able to handle this. So either the problem is with the utility, or the installation, really.

Given we are having infrastructure problems all over, I am willing to blame the utility.

43. @BreakingNews Officials: Superdome outage occurred

when sensing equipment detected an 'abnormality' - @AP

Let me translate that for you.

Sophisticated sensing equipment, designed to protect the infrastructure from damage, sensed a problem and shut things down before any serious damage could happen. The system worked as it was supposed to.

Think GFI or a big freakin' fuse.

This ain't plugging your toaster in, it's a bit more complicated.

The lights in the parking lot and the surrounding area stayed on.
The problem was inside the stadium. It problem took the 20 minutes to find the keys to the power room and the sub-station it contained.

I had the exact opposite happen. All anyone could talk about was America's failing infrastructure.

In fact, no one even knew who won the game or what the score was. They were way too concerned with the impending disaster of America's failing infrastructure.

Check this out! My power went off three times since it happened in NOLA! We've got to get the hell out of here! Now!
