Ex Navy Sniper Killed at Gun Range....

Kyle, an outspoken advocate for war veterans, claimed more than 150 sniper killings in Iraq, which he described as a record for any American. He said insurgents placed a bounty on his head and nicknamed him "the devil.”
Maybe they were right....

One has to wonder how many of those who were executed, truly had to be...

1. I doubt it was a bounty hit.

He took a PTSD veteran to a firing range...the ill veteran shot him and another man....Sounds to me like Kyle's delusional arrogance was at fault.

This was not therapeutic nor is/was Kyle a trained psychologist or therapist.

59. I don't understand your point ...

personality character,,,maybe I need to read this again? Let me share ....I see Kyle as arrogant and way out of his league on this adventure as he is not a psychiatric professional...This ended very badly for all...including the PTSD veteran.

2. Snipers and DMRs are not executioners

In his overwatch and cover position there is no telling how many American and Afghan green forces he saved, We have fairly rigid engagement rules for our marksmen. He wasn't just popping grapes at random.
He was an outspoken supporter of returning vets and very well respected among vets. It actually looks like a PTSD vet he was trying to help is the one that killed him, this is tragedy for both of them.
No devil, not by a long shot.

Like he’s conflating it to a sporting event.. Jesus, something is wrong here!

6. he has never claimed the "World Record"

He does have the highest of U.S. confirmed kills, there are Finnish and Soviets that have higher..
What is wrong here, having known people that attended his classes, and met the man, he is actually well more for his support of returning vets, the fact that he has a claim on a martial milestone is something he has used to further his work for vets. Many consider him a great man and a man that has stood up for his brothers and spoken out on the ill treatment they receive , being used up and cast away after the Gov is through with them.

"most lethal sniper in U.S. history," is not "claims it was a world record”.

so your agenda is showing, you have made it a sporting event not him. again, odd that.

I think that as time goes on, more will be revealed about the atrocities inflicted by U.S on Iraqi civilian population. However I will never say anything bad against the soldiers who were deployed. All the problems of this war begin and end with the administration who lied us into this tragedy.....

18. Agreed that 2 admistrations have lied and used up our soldiers

for no true gain... But again you put it in quotes, you can guess and conjecture.. but to misquote him and label him a monster, or "demon" this is saying something "bad about the soldiers"..
I disagree with some of his politics, but again he has worked hard for the returning vets, this to me is where I gain my respect and admiration.

Who in their right mind would not support returning Vets? I have personal interests in this subject which I do not feel I have to mention...

They are... different.. than you average grunt, and way different from the average soldier..
Coping mechanisms, we all have them. For shooters, one has always been the depersonalization of enemies..
I've done it and most I served with did it... your personal interests would understand..
Every sniper I have ever meet is a cocky and competitive and to try and change that, well

31. I will disagree, if it leads to a breakdown in discipline yes it will be adressed..

But the combat arms tend to attract the confident and driven... and we have the greatest fighting force known to man.. something is working.. now if we could we stop using them in them in the wrong way.
From recruiter all the way through to retirement ones entire career is based on competition. Have you been in, not a snide question, just a frame of reference for me.

44. Competitive is bad?

Really?
I again disagree, and yeah cocky is different, but at a certain point a man achieves enough to be given the benefit of the doubt as to his HSLD nature, and cocky is the one way to describe it, SEALs, ROK Army Rangers, British SAS, GSG9, former Soviet Spesnatz, French Legionnaires.. those fellows are cocky, and it is well earned and is what it is. Again I believe you have little exposure to these people and would not understand them.. At all
Yup cocky, and again.. I am not going to judge them for it.. they are in rarefied air of military achievement, and all earn their way into these units.

As time goes on, and more is reported, we as a country are gonna have to face a whole lot of

Unforgiven has a good line that applies here, and lord that is an old movie

there are many ways people deal with what they have to do in combat. If you get that cool, if not I really have no way to explain it that will make you understand. Keep on believing the world is a place of rainbows and fluffy pink clouds, you can because through out history people like him have seen and lived horror. He is an actual hero, more for his deeds after returning, not for his tally.

39. Here

A number of combat-tested Navy SEALs say they learned something any statehouse reporter in Minnesota could have told them: When Jesse Ventura talks, the subject is usually Jesse Ventura.

But the special forces members -- some still on active duty -- are supporting a comrade's claim that during a wake for a fallen team member six years ago, the former governor popped off one too many times, prompting one of them to deck him in a California bar.
