White House: Hagel will win Senate confirmation

MSNBC just reported the Whitehouse says they have the votes.

This is good news. Hagel is not a warmonger.

http://www.the-review.com/ap%20washington/2013/02/02/white-house-hagel-will-win-senate-confirmation

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House on Friday dismissed criticism of Chuck Hagel's hesitant congressional testimony and insisted that it expects the Senate to confirm him as defense secretary.

One day after Hagel was roughed up in a grueling confirmation hearing, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Hagel did a "fine job" and the Obama administration would be stunned if Republicans tried to block the nomination of a decorated Vietnam combat veteran and former two-term GOP senator.

"The president believes Sen. Hagel will make an excellent secretary of defense and that he will be confirmed and he looks forward to working with Sen. Hagel in that position as we continue to advance our national security priorities," Carney told reporters.

If confirmed, Hagel, 66, would be the lone Republican in President Barack Obama's Cabinet, the first Vietnam veteran to be defense secretary and the first enlisted man to take the post.

I think he'll survive the allegations but supposedly will hand over the gavel of the foreign relations comm.

Okay yes I got jumped on a few days ago here hoping for just that. because he opposes Cuba
travel and it's disgusting to me that he can have so much power when he puts a personal issue ahead of
our constitution and our rights to travel. But anyway of course we need him badly. I just wish another
dem would run that committee because he'll block every bill to improve things with Cuba.

How the media is trying to portray the appointment of a Republican as the Defense head, as some sort of big victory!?

Any democrats out there that could do the job? No? What? No, really?

because of that Jealous WAH WAH WAH.. so many Reality Based Writers are shining a spotlight on McCain for his acting like he needed his diapers changed.

Like Charlie Pierce here..

There really shouldn't be as much low farce in confirming a Cabinet appointment than was on display today as the Senate Armed Services Committee got its chance to blow off steam and posture in front of Chuck Hagel today in Washington. If it wasn't John McCain, bellowing his outrage that the world no longer recognizes his obvious geopolitical genius — even the folks in the monkeyhouse love the grumpy old RINO today — and that the world has not rewarded him with laurel leaves and flagons of the finest mead. So he spends six minutes trying to get Hagel to admit how brilliant he was to have recommended the "surge" in Iraq. Hagel declines and McCain's fumes, probably because he'll have to wait until Sunday morning to get the kind of fluffing that's the only reason he's still in public life any more. Well, that, and a war with Iran.

Time we had a SecDef who was always civilian, and certainly anti-war.

I don't care if he was a damned Whig. He's voted for every war he's had the chance to reject.

his voting record is pro war, 100% anti choice, anti gay, anti civil liberties. Are those the things on his resume that you like? If not, what are the things you like? Which of his votes, which of his quotes do you have in mind when you say you like his resume?
What specifically do you like about his attitude? The vague language his supporters use is mystifying to me, he could use some strong and clear persuasive voices in his favor.

He's in a comfortable middle of hawk and pacifist... one area of American politics we need moderate leaders in.

Things are too complicated with foreign policy to base it on ideology.

What? No Democrats available?

After everything is said and done,
Chuck Hagel is STILL a Reagan Republican,
and I don't like REPUBLICANS.
I don't vote for them.
I don't send them money.
I don't GOTV for Republicans.

I DO send money to The Democrats,
vote for Democrats,
and GOTV for Democrats
To Keep Republicans OUT of our government.

I see nothing to cheer for here,
just another incremental step to The Right.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their rhetoric, promises, or excuses.
