Fla. man arrested after pocket-dialing 911
ORANGE CITY, Fla. (AP) - A conversation with two passengers landed an Orange City tow truck driver in jail after his cell phone pocket-dialed 911 and dispatchers listened in.
Authorities say 19-year-old Matthew Dollarhide was surprised when a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy pulled him over on Tuesday and asked why they were talking about selling drugs. The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/WhbrCN ) reports deputies were alerted at 9:42 p.m. Tuesday and sent to a location where dispatchers said the phone signal was coming from. From the conversation, dispatchers learned that they were driving a tow truck and heard the name Harry. Deputies pulled over a Harry's Towing truck moments later. http://www.nbc-2.com/story/20880162/fla-man-arrested-after-pocket-dialing-911 Gotta watch them cell phones in your pocket.

7. All they needed was probably cause to pull them over.

If the guy then consented to a search, that's that.

5. I have pocket dialed 911
|
about two Xmas's ago. I got a rather heavy bookshelf for my mother in law and I had to man handle the shelf a bit to get it into the truck. About 30 seconds later, before I even got close to opening the truck door I got a call on my phone from a weird number, and it was 911 dispatch asking if everything was okay. I was surprised that I pocked dialed because the phone key pad was still "locked" and I told the dispatch everything was okay, gave her my location and what caused the pocket dial. It was a weird experience, I didn't know you could pocket dial 911 while your phone key pad was locked.

6. I believe you are correct a locked key pad does not prevent dialing 911.

11. when i realized what was going on
|
i got the phone from her (not knowing she was talking to dispatch) and I had to start answering questions. I asked them if they needed to send a car and i would offer a beverage to the responding officer and she laughed and said something to the effect of, "well, I guess if you were a bad guy you wouldn't be ASKING for the police to come" and she thanked me and hung up.

I'll bet the Dollarhide residence is quite the merry place today.
