Cuomo's popularity falls in polls after gun control laws

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's popularity has plummeted among Republicans, Democrats and independents after he pushed tougher gun control measures into law after the Connecticut school massacre.

The Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows the Democrat dropped from his all-time high approval rating of 74 percent in December to 59 percent now.

Quinnipiac's Maurice Carroll, however, says the results go beyond the gun law and shows concern about Cuomo's liberal turn this year.

I know they have a gun factory in upstate NY that's been doing a bang up business with lots of overtime, ever since Barack Obama became President in 2008.

By a 46 - 22 percent margin, voters have an unfavorable opinion of the leadership of the National Rifle Assn. -snip-
(College Degree = 67% unfavorable, 17% favorable on the above) -snip-

"With approval ratings that consistently topped 70 percent, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had the political capital to spend when he set out to pass the toughest gun control laws in the nation," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "It is possible that the gun law cost him some of that political capital, but a 2-1 job approval rating still makes him the envy of most governors."

More at this link (poll breakdown) which makes me think this isn't as bad as it sounds ... not at all when it comes to sensible gun control...

Democratic politicians take heed.

Ignore Constitutional rights at your peril.

If dropping 15 percentage points in popularity is no big deal to you, then sure. Go ahead and pass some feel-good laws that will do little to nothing toward stopping actual murder tragedies.

But I'd prefer that my Democratic Representatives & Senators focus on fixing the economy, increasing job growth, protecting the environment (including, Governor Cuomo, banning fracking), defending reproductive freedom, advancing marriage equality, halting the war on drugs and addressing addiction problems via the public health system, improving health care for everyone, and protecting privacy. Expending political capital on unconstitutional gun control measures actually has the net effect of slowing these other pursuits and causes.

That face tough reelection prospects...

How much are the gun control advocates WILLING to give up "just to TALK" about gun control? Think very hard about that question because it is looking more likely that the AW ban, is doomed. Keep this issue HOT, and on the front burner, what damage could loosing just a few seats in the US Senate cause us??

Think long and hard, your pissing off most American voters, a pro-gun majority, in this nation is clear.

BTW, the NRA has picked up almost a MILLION NEW DUES PAYING MEMBERS in the past month... Contrast that with the 50,000 free mailing list subscribers that Sara Brady's group has..

You know, someone should purchase the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence's mailing list, just to see more about them..

Last time the gun nuts went all all-caps about gun control was when Obama mentioned the assault weapons ban in his last debate. According to the gungeon trolls, that spelled doom for Obama because all of the "pro-gun progressives" were going to abandon him and vote Republican.

I hate to disappoint you and Karl Rove, but polls show the majority of Americans support all gun control measures that Obama has proposed.
