In new PPP Poll 49% of TEXANS favor an Assault Weapons Ban!

Texans support assault weapons ban

Overall on the issue of guns Texans say they trust the NRA over President Obama by a 47/43 margin.

And despite all of that 49% of Texas voters support an assault weapons ban to just 41% opposed to it. Texans support assault weapons ban, mixed on CornynMost Democrats support it, independents favor it by a 53/34 margin, and even among Republicans 23% support it. We've found support for the assault weapons ban everywhere we've polled it, but it's particularly striking to see that voters favor it in a pro-gun, anti-Obama state like Texas.

And I think it was around 60% in 1994, IIRC.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement by Texans.

Upon further review: Only 500 Texans were polled, and the question's wording was skewed. What kind of polling operation are these guys running, anyway?

This Is the wording of the question...

"Would you support or oppose banning assault weapons?"

Looks pretty neutral to me, I don't see the skew you refer to. I know that you will probably go on some rant about the definition of an assault rifle, but that only means that not everyone agrees on the specifics. It is clear however that 49% in this poll said they support some type of assault weapons ban.

500 is not that bad of a sample as long as a good methodology is used and PPP has a great track record, they are among the top pollsters in terms of accuracy. Check election results against PPPs predictions and you will see they are almost always close to the real numbers.

I'm hungry, and I haven't had dinner yet. I gotta wean myself off the laptop once in a while.

Does this apply only to full-auto rifles or are even semi-automatic rifles with any size magazine also considered to be "assault" weapons? An important question to ask, IMHO.
