Wayne Lapierre makes a case for having no criminal laws whatsoever

“When it comes to be background checks let’s be honest, background checks will never be ‘universal,’ because criminals will never submit to them.” - Wayne LaPierre

Why have criminal laws at all Wayne? Criminals, "will never submit to them".

1. It's the same story with the people claiming 3D printing is a "game changer"

That's bullshit, too.

"You can make them at home and get around the laws"

Yeah, you know what else you can make at home - child porn. Oddly, though, nobody says that about cameras and 2D printers.

"Oh, well, if you can make it at home, nobody can make a law against it."

The bullshit is so thick with these clods.

17. Well, making kiddie porn requires a child and the desire to make child porn...

Fortunately, the combination of those two factors is relatively rare.

If, on the other hand, you're talking about a popular and reasonably socially acceptable illegal good, like weed, then chances are that good will remain widely available on the black market. If millions of people are ready to buy the illegal good, then somebody will supply that demand. If the drug war is any indication, cracking down on the "nicer" illegal sellers simply causes nastier, more sociopathic individuals to move in to supply the market.

Edit: For that matter, instead of thinking about kiddie porn, consider regular porn, which could also be prosecuted, technically, as "illegal obscenity." Millions of people want basic porn featuring adult performers, and so that demand is supplied. Furthermore, it's so popular that politicians who advocate strictly enforcing those obscenity laws are mocked as Bible-thumping dinosaurs.

2. It's part of the new conservative meme of "self reliance"

which is a damn sight better than the old conservative meme of "Fuck you, you're on your own."

We don't need tax dollars to pay for law enforcement. Just arm everybody and we self-reliant conservatives will take care of criminals on our own. It sounds like I'm being snarky, but that's actually the argument they're making.

Take, for example, the ignorant piece of shit who is the Sherrif in Milwaukee County. He basically told residents that 911 is useless -- you should arm yourself rather than wait for the police to respond. Law enforcement is pointless. They don't show up in time and they don't punish criminals sufficiently.

So why not pick up a gun and shoot the next teenager who turns up in your driveway?

31. You saw that too?

What an idiot Clarke is. And he played that ad as a PSA (public service announcement) on the radio!!!!

It wasn't just an off-the-cuff verbal diarrhea, it was put out there as an official statement of advice.

He's a scary crazy man.

39. Taxpayer Funded...

Basically he cut a PSA dissing municipal law enforcement and telling residents -- against the advice and counsel of every police chief in the county -- that people should arm themselves. Clarke and his bailiffs won't be the ones mopping up all the blood.

3. It's not rational to assume that since something has not happened it cannot happen. & that

assumption can, in fact, result in preventing whatever from happening, because no effort will be made since TTE "It's not going to happen anyway."

This is called learned helplessness; it is highly characteristic of Republicans and isn't it funny that it comes from anyone propagandizing "self reliance".

4. Reminds me of a quote from The Simpsons:

"What started as a traditional soccer riot has quickly turned into a city wide orgy of destruction. Reacting swiftly Mayor Quimby declared mob rule, meaning for the next several years it's every family for themselves!"

Really who does Wayne think he's kidding here?

10. He does want criminals to buy guns, that is why he opposes closing the gun show loophole.

The NRA gets a lot of money from gun manufacturers, preventing them from selling to criminals would cut into their profits.

11. Fail!

The gun show loophole is a misnomer. (a dealer at a gun show would still have to do a back ground check) At best it is a private sale loophole. That is where a gunowner sells his personal weapons at a gun show.
Gun owners are selling their own USED guns. That does not benefit the gun manufacturers.

And if you don't believe the gun industry profits from gun shows then I don't know what to tell you.

but what I said is the private sales at a gun show don't help the gun manufacturers. Respond to that please.

The Zimmerman case is proof that many NRA members want murderers walking the streets.

Read damn near any comment section on an article about Zimmerman on a right-wing website, there are tons of comments supporting him. If you don't know that then you have not followed the case at all.

32. I am still waiting for a response to post 26

Please tell me how you can defend an organization who has an advocate for the assassination of Obama sitting on their Board of Directors. The man in that video is Ted Nugent, he gave another speech at the NRA convention after this video was filmed. They provided him the microphone and he once again made another threat against Obama and was questioned by the Secret Service, but even after multiple offenses the NRA still keeps him on their board. I can provide a link to the second video as well, in fact I know of a third video of him advocating assassination as well.

This is the organization you are defending so go ahead, defend it.

Proceed.

Here is a member of your Board of Directors explicitly advocating the murder of Obama and Hillary Clinton. now please explain to me why you defend an organization who allows this person to remain on their board and let use their microphone.

Please proceed with your response.

29. Do I hear crickets? ;)

The NRA loves anyone who wants guns. They do not love the people who have to clean up after gun violence as evidenced by the "enemies" list they keep publishing.

I find it quite ironic that they're all "We need better Mental Health Care" while putting the APA and half the social worker professional associations out there on their little blacklist.

You say Nugent should not be on the board. Have you expressed this to the NRA? What do you plan to do to try to influence his removal? Do you intend on continuing to promote the NRA while he remains on the board?

37. He's been hitting the peace pipe. Dude... "If there are no

laws then there are no criminals. But if there is a law that someone breaks then they're a criminal who breaks rules for criminals. But for law abiding Amuricans who become criminals because of laws that are broken then criminal laws are made moot by the criminals who break them. And that is indeed a crime." -Wayne Lapierre.

Makes perfect sense to me.
