Jindal Stops Program For At-Risk 1st Time Moms

Another program Jindal is cutting for Louisiana, effective February 1...

The health department is eliminating the portion of the program that offers at-home visits to low-income women who are pregnant with their first child. Registered nurses visit the women early in their pregnancy and until their children's second birthday, offering advice on preventive health care, diet and nutrition, smoking cessation and other child developmental issues.

http://www.thetowntalk.com/viewart/20130129/NEWS01/301290310/Louisiana-health-care-cuts-begin-Friday

It teaches life-skills to young, at-risk moms to make them better parents and make them better able to care for their children. The median age of the mother is 19 years of age; 92% are unmarried; 59% of the moms are African American, while 34% are Non-Hispanic Whites. At the end of the program, 17% had a reduction in smoking during pregnancy, there is a 14% increase in workforce participation and 90% of 24 month olds are fully immunized!

THIS PROGRAM HAS RECEIVED NATIONAL RECOGNITION FROM:

The Washington State Institute for Public Policy,
The RAND Corporation and The Brookings
Institution have concluded that investments
in Nurse-Family Partnership lead to significant
returns to society and government, giving
taxpayers a $2.88-5.70 return per dollar
invested in the program.

and

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
names Nurse-Family Partnership in the Journal
of the American Medical Association as the most
rigorously evaluated program that promotes
safe, stable, and nurturing relationships
and environments — which can improve
children’s health over a lifetime and reduce the
health disparities between advantaged and
disadvantaged children.

Children are our future! You would think a Governor would be most concerned about the children of his state! And then, Jindal refuses to participate in the Affordable Care Act AKA Obamacare. What is going to happen to these children? He was going to stop Medicaid funding for hospice care and suddenly reversed himself last week when people started an uproar.

Tell Bobby Jindal NO! this is NOT acceptable! To Stop being the stupid party!

6. Bonus:

At-risk moms who harm, neglect, or endanger their children can now be sent to for-profit prisons and their children can be raised in foster care, thus ensuring future cannon fodder and for-profit prison "guests."

18. How much does the state pay to foster homes?

Last edited Wed Jan 30, 2013, 04:33 AM - Edit history (1)

I found it. http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/PCS/rates_childcare_reimbursement.asp

Minimum Daily Amount to be Reimbursed to a Foster Family *
Service Level FY 2012-2013
Basic $22.15
Moderate $38.77
Specialized $49.85
Intense $88.62

Looks to be higher than TANF.

13. Louisiana ranks as "America's Top Pro-Life State"

according to the front page of his Governor's web site http://www.gov.state.la.us/

part of his statement:
“Defending innocent human life is a core responsibility of any civilized society, and I’m proud that Louisiana has been recognized for its efforts to protect the weakest and most vulnerable among us who cannot protect themselves.”

This is the second year in a row that Louisiana has topped AUL’s “Life List.” The group’s annual “Life List” awards states that have cumulatively displayed efforts to pass pro-life legislation.

He might not even make it to the primaries.

Because that's exactly how he feels about them. He should add "Mean" to his label of the "Stupid Party."

24. And in Nebraska...KETV: Neb. lawmaker seeks to repeal prenatal care law

http://www.democraticunderground.com/106362

A Nebraska lawmaker has moved to repeal a law that extends state-funded prenatal care services to illegal immigrants and other low-income women.

State Sen. Charlie Janssen of Fremont introduced the repeal measure on Wednesday, about six months after the new law went into effect.

Lawmakers restored services for women last year despite strong objections from Republican Gov. Dave Heineman. Heineman is also seeking to defund the program in the budget that he proposed to lawmakers.

Pregnant women lost access to the services in 2010, after the federal government ordered the state to stop providing them through Medicaid. The new law offers services through the Children's Health Insurance Program.

At the risk of offending the non-religious community here:

Matthew 25:31-46

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
