Soledad coming to MSNBC ??

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/29/chris-cuomo-cnn-morning-show_n_2572905.html

<snip>
Cuomo has a history on morning television; he was the news anchor on "Good Morning America" for three years. But when George Stephanopoulos replaced Diane Sawyer as co-host there in 2009, Cuomo moved to "20/20."

The Post and TMZ both reported that Zucker intends to pair Cuomo with current 7 PM host Erin Burnett, who also has a background in morning television.

Zucker's own past as the executive producer of "Today" was cited by CNN executives as a major factor in his hiring.

The big question — besides whether or not CNN can finally begin really challenging MSNBC and Fox News in the morning ratings again — is what happens to Soledad O'Brien, the network's current morning host. Her hard-hitting interviews on "Starting Point" have won her praise, but not large audiences. Even so, she remains one of CNN's more well-known personalities.

1. Wouldn't you love to see Soledad

paired with Scarborough instead of mealy-mouth Mika? Or better yet Soledad with someone like Spitzer instead of Mojo period?

7. How about giving her the 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. Hardball slot?

Seriously, does Matthews have pictures of someone violating a goat?

How is it that he continues to have two airings of his show at this point esp. when one airing is a repeat of a show that aired just one hour prior?

14. Definitely +1

Instead of giving Tweety two airings, they should restructure their schedule. They can keep Tweety at 5pm, PoliticsNation with Reverend Al at 6pm, and create a new show for Soledad at 7pm. If they can't get Soledad, they should move Martin Bashir to the 7pm hour because he definitely deserves more exposure.

29. It's not repeated in my area. That's your local network doing that.

My lineup here in Dallas at MSNBC is:

5pm - PoliticsNation
6pm - Hardball
7pm - Big Ed
8pm - Rachel Maddow
9pm - Lawrence

Most of those shows get repeated....past midnight.

There is an earlier showing of Hardball here, at 4:00pm. But no one sees that one...people are at work. Putting Soledad there would ensure she would never build an audience. I'd never see it.

31. It isn't their local network...

Hardball originally airs at 5 PM Eastern, 4 PM Central. Re-airs at 7 PM Eastern, 6 PM Central. The other posters were referring to Eastern time zone showings.

37. Ah. Putting her in that timeslot would be the Kiss of Death.

Most of the country would never see her show because they're at work. It would air at 4 p.m. and 2 or 3 p.m. in most of the country.

33. How about giving anyone but Matthews that slot?

Better yet, let Matthews have it and give his 7PM to anybody else.

Even better, replace him on *both* hours.

8. CNN used to have Miles O'Brien in the morning with Soledad

They were wonderful together. Intelligent, informative, funny without shoving political talking points from either side in your face.

CNN dismantled their science & technology section in 2008 and fired O'Brien then. He now is a reporter for PBS: "He is the Science Correspondent for PBS NewsHour, and a regular correspondent for the PBS documentary series FRONTLINE and the National Science Foundation Science Nation series." http://milesobrien.com/

One of the funniest days was when a viewer asked if Soledad & Miles were married.

I would love to see the two of them back together - they really gave wonderful coverage of a very wide range of subjects, with a solid background of factual knowledge.

12. Bingo! CNN used to have good science and technology reporting

No more. Now they have talking heads that might have some passing acquaintance with the subjects they are covering. Usually they are more ignorant than their audience. It's pitiful.

28. True - I read a couple of science magazines a month

Scientific American and Science News.

And when I want to get in depth on a subject, I get a book about it. Internet research is most useful for links to provide in internet discussions, not for initially getting the facts .

36. Yes, I did!

I think both Fox and MSNBC use the media airwaves to distort the truth. Although there are individuals on MSNBC that I like, I dislike both corporations. I think they have added to the divisiveness of the discourse for pure political gain. I like Rachel Maddow, but I liked her better before MSNBC. These are corporations out to make a buck. They put one thing in front of our faces, and behind our backs their CEOs sometimes do totally different things.

For the record, I don't think much of CNN, either. There is at least one individual on each of the three that I like. I like Shep on Fox, I like Morning Joe, Chris Matthews, and Rachel Maddow, and I like Soledad O'Brien, Piers Morgan (some days) and Anderson Cooper on CNN.

But, I think the corporations stink. I think they continually sell us down the river when the money smells right. I think all 3 offer a bunch of spin when it suits them. And, I think they were co-conspirators with Republicans to divide the country. Controversy and anger sells, so they keep the nation as doped up as possible.

Finally, I'm not into the false equivalency meme. If Jane kicked my dog three times, but Bob only kicked my dog once...I still don't like either one of them.

I call it being consistent.

11. I saw nothing about Soledad going to msnbc but

I hope she lands in a good spot. I guess cnn didn't want to have her and Cuomo together.. too many facts in one place?

Cuomo's hire is part of a thorough revamping of CNN's ranks. It follows that of Jake Tapper, another ABC veteran who will host an afternoon show on the network. Also on Tuesday, pundits James Carville, Mary Matalin and Erik Erickson all parted ways with the company. And managing editor Mark Whitaker announced his departure.

Good to see erick erickson of redstate going off the air. Did that turn out not to be such a good idea?

Thanks for the news, kentuck

15. MSNBC has lots of weekend prime-time hours to upgrade...

...from their current prison "Lockdown" marathons.

Soledad's interviewing skills would do just as well, if not better, in the evenings as in the mornings, particularly if she has an entire hour show to herself.

Then, MSNBC could fill up the rest of the weekend schedule by giving shows to some of their best analysts (Joy Reid, for example) and by trading Ed Rendell to Faux News for Dennis K.

Just some thoughts.

That might tilt the balance. They have a few to make money but not enough to change the way people think at large.

they would easily fall for the both sides do it type arguments they are always pushing. Soledad has been one of the few who is good at questioning.

20. and then there's this: CNN Drops James Carville, Mary Matalin; Others Leave in Zucker Shake-up

Democratic strategist and political commentator James Carville says he and his wife Mary Matalin, a Republican political consultant and conservative journalist, are leaving CNN.

Carville told Politico's Dylan Byers on Tuesday that the decision was CNN's.

"I was told that they wanted the contributors to be more available — essentially, closer to Washington. I'm not always available, I don't live there," he said.

The political odd couple resides in New Orleans.

Matalin didn't respond to Politico's inquiry about the departure, but Carville told the website that they both enjoyed their time with CNN and respected its decision.

The couple has been a media fascination for years, often appearing in split-screen debates that resemble a disagreement between a married couple rather than two political commentators with opposing views.

Carville, a New Orleans native known for his southern twang and outgoing personality, was President Bill Clinton's campaign manager during his successful 1992 victory over President George H. W. Bush.

32. Doesn't sound that way, based on the article....

O'Brien was not mentioned in CNN's Tuesday press release. Nor were there any details given about what the "new morning show" will look like, or whether she will be involved in it. A spokesperson told TVNewser, “Soledad is very important to the network, and we’re discussing various options with her."

If she did move to MSNBC, they should give her the hour where that piece of shit "The Cycle" resides.

35. Would be nice to see her come back....

"NBC NewsStarting in 1996 and during the dot-com boom, O'Brien anchored MSNBC's weekend morning show and the cable network's award-winning technology program The Site, which aired weeknights from the Spring of 1996 to November 1997. The show was unique in that she interacted with a virtual character Dev Null, played by Leo Laporte in a motion capture suit."
