Bill to regulate strip clubs resurfaces in Kansas

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

TOPEKA | A bill that seeks to regulate strip clubs and other adult businesses in Kansas has resurfaced in the Kansas House.

The measure would regulate where adult businesses can be located, and ban lap dances and dancing onstage in various levels of undress.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that a hearing on the measure is planned for Feb. 14 in the House Federal and State Affairs Committee.

But Rep. Arlen Siegfreid, an Olathe Republican, says he's unsure how eager lawmakers will be to vote on it and it's unclear if the committee will work on the bill this year.

2. then where will the legislators go for entertainment?

Oh yes, there it is: "Rep. Arlen Siegfreid, an Olathe Republican...says he's unsure how eager lawmakers will be to vote on it..."

How eager are they to ban pole dancing? Not very. They won't get their lap dances and pornos in church.

4. Small government for corporations. Big government for anything having to do with sex.

That's pretty much how it works.

5. Ahhhh, the puritanical hypocrites.

At it again.

The only reason to close ANY adult business is if it can't do enough business to pay the rent.

Otherwise, you're just trying to shove your puritanical point of view down my throat.

"Oh No! There might be someone somewhere getting an erection! We can't have that, now can we?"

I feel the same way about no beer sales on Sunday laws. The fact that I can't buy a beer on a Sunday in certain jurisdictions is proof that religious laws exist for no other reason than there just might be someone trying to do something certain people don't like on a day they hold "sacred".

Fine. Close or further regulate strip clubs and beer sales as long as I can take you to the town square and stone you for eating shellfish or cutting your grass on the sabbath wearing your dress socks and those dopey plaid shorts.

10. i would think sex slavery and underage strippers would be an issue also... seeming how it is an

issue in the strip club industry.

surely.

it is not ALL about a man getting an erection. surely there are other things about the industry that counts beyond the male erection.

this is to your post, not the OP.

11. Sex slavery? really?

As a percentage of the entire industry, I would think any instances of "sex slavery" is infinitesimally small.

Most owners of such establishments are not really very interested in breaking the law. In many if not most jurisdictions, an alcohol license is VERY expensive to obtain and losing it means your business closes.

As far as underage women getting hired on, it is also something that every legitimate operator avoids at all costs. Does it happen?

Yup. But those that make a habit of hiring underage women get caught and are shut down.

The overwhelming majority don't do it. It isn't the norm.

A well run "Gentlemens Club" is about the safest sex one can have.
Though many may feel them exploitative, the number of women that have been literally forced into the trade can be counted on.......no fingers.

Does it suck that it seems to be the only option for some women? Yup. Sure does.

If we fixed it so there wasn't the need for those women to do that for a living, would there still be women that wanted to do it?

You're damned right there would be.

I've been a single man all my life and I have been to many clubs across this country, from Maine to Miami, from New York to San Diego, from Orlando to Seattle as well as establishments in Australia, Canada and England. I am in no way ashamed of that. The ones that are busy and do well, follow the law. The ones that don't follow the law don't stay busy and don't do well. The dancers don't want to work in a place that has shady business practices.

7. Are they trying to kill the strip club industry?

The measure would regulate where adult businesses can be located, and ban lap dances and dancing onstage in various levels of undress.

Whats left if you have no lap dances or stripping onstage, what's the point of the club then?

Not in favor of strip clubs but really whats left for them to do sell you drinks in a thong?

9. Ban men and women!

Then we will not have to put up with such unseemly nonsense!

Admittedly there might be other drawbacks.....
