Now how could this have happened?

"Of the 18 homicides that occurred in Chicago over the past ten days, 15 of the victims died from gunshot wounds, two were stabbed, and one was a victim of a fatal assault. More than half of the victims were under the age of 30 and nearly all of them were male."
http://www.popdecay.com/2013/01/14/18-murdered-in-chicago-in-first-two-weeks-of-2013/14687

Look, I understand, and support, the need eliminating high capacity magazines, assault weapons ban, and similar measures.

But what this points out that even the strictest gun control in the world isn't going to eliminate the violence, and what really needs to be addressed are the root causes of this violence. Things like poverty, the continuation of this foolish War on Drugs, and the society of fear and anger, the behavioral sink, that we all live in.

Until we address, and solve, those root issues, gun control is going to be nothing more than a band aid, and the killing will continue.

1. Like they do with epidemics, Put a ring around it. Choke it so there is no host to attatch it to.

change the law
and then enforce the new law.

NO guns on street

collectors can collect (you don't collect guns in the street) and put it and leave it in their house
go to a shooting range and they give you a gun and some fake ammo
you can hunt with a bow and arrow

that would take guns out of all places accessed from a street and in the street

It's really quite simple, with proper security.

Like they do with epidemics, Put a ring around it. Choke it so there is no host to attatch it to.
When it can't breathe, it dies.

4. Do you realize just how much "security" would be required to get every single gun in the country?

Are you really proposing that the police go house to house, going through the entire place and seizing any gun they find?

Our nation is already a police state, ratcheting it up to seize every single gun would turn this into a draconian country, one in which most people wouldn't want to live in, whether they are pro or anti gun.

You are as far out on a limb with this radical anti-gun position as some of the gun nuts are being pro gun. Furthermore, do you honestly think you're going to get your way? Sorry, but let's try for the achievable instead of pipe dreams that simply won't happen, and that alienate people from achieving that which can be achieved.

5. There are no legal guns on Chicago's streets - no concealed carry in Illinois

In fact they already have everything you are calling for in place.

But if you want mandatory sentences you have to talk to Anita Alvarez, the States Attorney for Cook County. She's the one that plea bargains away the gun charges first.

7. Like they do with epidemics, Put a ring around it. Choke it so there is no host to attatch it to.

as everyone knows, the problem of guns being readily available in every single state south of Illinois, with no borders to keep them out of Illinios leaves them available.

So let's start with those states south of Illinois and choke out all the guns

it is the legal guns and the gun shows and the gun dealers that make these guns available.

After all, one cannot legally mail a gun through the US post office, at least according to the signs on post office near me. You cannot walk into a post office with one, let alone mail it.

So thanks for the opening to talk about the other states, where the guns come from.

BTW, isn't it a great cover of Time Magazine this week?

If all states had the same rules as NYC/Chicago and Illinois, same laws, etc, then there would not be a problem in Chicago.

11. 508 dead in 2012 No, there's no problem in Chicago

There is a ring around Chicago, it's called Cook County and another ring around that, it's called Illinois.

Keep your head in the sand. All of your ideas for controlling the citizenry have failed here.

We have more students killed every two months here than they had murdered at Sandy Hook.

We've already had 40 killed since the first of the year.

Gun control is a massive failure in Illinois and Chicago.

Hey, maybe Rahm will give some of the millions he made in the investment and banking industry to fight the NRA?

By the way when will we be seeing the first Bloomie check to the Brady group?

12. You make my case.Just one individual state can't stop a nationwide super epidemic.

Like a major flu or new epidemic, in todays world, one cannot just stop it in one city, because of easy travel and access, and no checkpoints in this country, someone like Zimmerman in Florida could easily appear everywhere and if they drive safely, make sure their lights work and wipers work, no one bats an eye at them, and voila they arrive in Illinois and the virus moves into the tows and cities and effects everyone.

Without a vaccine it can kill the entire town.

as for guns, well,
one cannot stop something in Illinios, when they can go to any place but New York City and California have a gun dealer out the back door slip a gun into the trunk of any car.
Or go to a gun show where people line up to go to.

Here is a theoretical-

(you know you guys always talk about gangs.
Well, I hope they continue to do what they do at mafia gang funerals and film the mafia to see who shows up to pay respects.
They should keep the cameras rolling(and by they, in this instance, I am talking about average citizens using their cell phones not authority.)

And anonymously publish those pictures world wide. I mean the fans of anonymous have convinced me that they could do a good thing with the right cause. This is the right cause.
And as politics and issues make strange bedfellows, well...
No secrets.

After all, why wouldn't gun people be proud and want to show their guns?
(like they did at town halls in 2010. Those tea party people and libertarians were proud of the guns then, I figure they would now.

A national data bank with photos of all the guns being purchased this day forward all over the internet.

But not from authority. From the protesters, like the hero in T-Square stopping the tanks.
We can have heroes like that man, nationwide stopping the NRA and the transportation of guns.

Because the NRA is already dead.
They put out an enemies list.
I noted that the John Birch Society, the Neo Nazi's and the Klu Klux klan are not on it.
Neither is Ron Paul
Interesting by omission.

Every organizaiton on the enemies list should be proud of it and supported by it.
As a matter of fact, they should use it in their publicity.

Proud member of the NRA enemies list.
And there should be a list of everyone who supports the NRA and their business.

And one by one, make sure no one frequents those establishments and goes to the non-NRA
places.

Slowly surely, the funding will dry up.
the sucking sound the nra is hearing is guns being taken off the street, slowly but will and can happen

and funded by superpacs of people fed up with guns.

as said, just a theoretical that would actually work better if we all put our pretty little heads together, and let's just say we do this for the children.

possibly
possibly not
depending I guess if one is on that enemies list, or one isn't.

And who isn't on that enemies list, says everything one needs to know about everything.

2. I think that we need to address this from many angles to have any success

No one thing will solve it alone.

No time like the present to start. We'll wind up a better country, in so many ways, once it is done.

10. 15 people killed by plain old everyday handguns

Without extended magazines or barrel shrouds or any of that. Cheap, mass-produced (homemade in some cases), easy to transport and conceal.

Last year, the majority of homicides were a direct result of gang violence, which authorities this year also describe as the cause of some of the murders.

And this is what depresses me. These are guns in the hands of people who would never be able to get a gun legally, and so get it in the same way that they get drugs, sometimes even smuggled in the same vehicles.

13. That is played out in city after city across the country.

To varying degrees.

It isn't the guns.

The gun control proposals won't end any of it.

What are the real reasons, then, for those pushing such gun control?

Our freedoms are being eroded at an ever-quickening pace, no matter which party is in "control."

And we all just baaaa along.

smh

15. Agree. Root causes need to be address, but so do safety issues and guns are one of those issues.
