2. Same goes for most other channels

take for instance TLC, National Geographic, or the so-called History Channel. Info channels are now red neck goober fests.

12. It's only an hour, ffs.

Driving is probably the closest most people get to daily participation in a sporting event, when you thing about it. Requires training, hand, eye, and foot coordination, and involves considerable risk.

14. I played a game the other day.

I counted how many of our cable channels were actually showing advertising in some form as a "show."
They ranged from 30-minute overt ads for products to the Home Shopping networks that run advertising 24/7. The interesting thing to me, though, was how much "stealth" advertising there was: full-length feature shows on the Disney parks, or fashion shows, or auto shows, for example. There was an awful lot of programming that was presented as feature entertainment, but was clearly intended to sell you something. I remember when cable was introduced. We were told that, because we paid monthly for it, there wouldn't have to be any commercials. Now we pay for access to cable, and the shows have commercials anyway...and the length of the commercials keeps expanding. When I came across the TV Land network recently, I realized that they were showing THREE episodes of the Andy Griffith Show in a two-hour period, instead of the four I would have expected. The greed is unfathomable. |
