43. He made a rude comment about her not letting President Obama have a cigarettes AND

he was pawing at her arm. If you watch the video that is floating around on the net, you can see where he pawed at her arm while she was trying to eat. After that, she had to practically protect herself from him while she attempted to finish eating. He was being really obnoxious toward her.

81. It was an unwanted tapping. I wouldn't tap people when I made a joke unless

I knew them very well and knew they wouldn't mind. It's not a good idea. I don't like it if people touch me when I haven't given my OK. May be because I am smaller than a lot of people. Makes me feel very uncomfortable. I think it is a sign of disrespect to Michelle Obama on John Boehner's part. It is especially inappropriate for a man to do that to a woman.

They were seated beside eachother, at a collegial social event, and jokes and light 'touchings' are perfectly appropriate, regardless of gender.

91. No. Light touchings are not always appropriate. They are appropriate only if

there is a feeling of familiarity and trust between the two individuals involved.

There certainly is no feeling of familiarity and trust between John Boehner and Michelle Obama. And that is very clear from the video if you have seen the whole thing.

103. I agree. I personally think that Boehner was trying to be friendly and have some

fun. But, you can tell Michelle wants no part of it and has no respect for him. So his attempt fell flat.

But for most people who like each other this would be no big deal whatsoever.

93. yes, I think he just tapped her

but he supposedly was asking for a cigarette, then when Obama said he didn't have one, The Boner said "because someone won't let you" and tapped Michelle.

Or something close to that.

I will always believe her eyes rolled involuntarily due to the large amount of alcohol fumes coming from behind her, causing her eyes to sting.

But that's just me.

All of a sudden everyone was like, yeah hand over heart for National Anthem!!!1!

while some of us were more like, huh, never was that way before?

played the National Anthem. Players put their hats over the hearts, as did fans in the stands. If you didn't have a hat, you put your hand over your heart.

It's not really a big deal, however I don't think it's silly.

new thing made up by Republicans...

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/02/national-anthem-etiquette-what-to-do-at-a-sporting-event-or-political-rally/

snip-
The Independence Hall Association says the Flag Code, adopted first in 1923, requires those who are not members of the Armed Forces or veterans to face the flag and stand with a hand over their heart. Men in these crowds are told to remove hats or other headwear with their right hands and place them over their left shoulders. eHow.com — a less formal guide — also recommends dropping your nachos and putting out your cigarette.

Maybe it's just that look of denial of reality that so many Republican wives have. She probably didn't even register the song, or even that someone was singing.

I'm sure the rise of Hitler and Nazism is what caused it to change. Not exactly sure when but I'd bet during WWII at the latest of course.

83. The author of the Pledge, Francis Bellamy, was a MINISTER.

And even he didn't put any God in his original version!

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to* the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

86. Yep, Didn't Happen Until the 50's When We Also Started Putting "In God We Trust" on Paper Money

It was in response to those godless commies. Seriously, it was one of those stupid symbolic bunches of crap our congress seems to be able to pass rather than passing meaningful legislation. Not much has changed.

90. A socialist minister. Oh and he originally wanted it to be "liberty, equality, and justice for all"

but removed "equality" because he was told it would be too controversial.

And in 2013, over 100 years later, it sadly would be just as "controversial" to put equality in there.

64. In 2007 - rules for conduct during the National anthem changed

Didn't know this until I just looked it up.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/36/301

36 USC § 301 - National anthem

(a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.

(b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem—
(1)when the flag is displayed—
(A)individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note;

(B)members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and

(C)all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and

(2)when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

80. werd...

That's something I'd refuse out of principle. I don't have a problem with doing it (I usually don't myself, but I have in the past), but don't try to force me to. It's similar to burning the flag. I have no desire to burn the flag, but don't tell me I can't. Kinda goes against what the US is supposed to stand for.

88. The Code is there for civilians as well as uniformed personnel--you're free to ignore it, it doesn't

have the force of law. If you're on active duty, though, I wouldn't advise ignoring it--that could be construed as conduct unbecoming.

79. It's been that way since 1923, as part of the Flag Code.

Of course there are no penalties for not following the flag code:

85. I think the change is "B"--because in the military, you hear that tune and it's automatic.

It used to be that we were not supposed to "salute" out of uni--but now, because people did it without thinking, they're letting us do it. It's something that is drilled into one at an early stage; it becomes second nature.

with a husband who's likely to get as sloppily and slurringly drunk as Boner gets. Imagine spending the day wondering if he's going to puke on your shoes in front of the cameras.

When conservative bloggers used it to question the patriotism of then candidate Obama.
