Is it impossible for Right Wingers to control themselves on the internet?

I'm really curious if it's a mass meltdown, or just how they play now.

Anyone else tired of EVERY interent comment board, every conversation, being littered with RW talking points, regardless of the topic? If there is a car crash that kills someone, there are numerous "ban cars" or "ban baseball bats." If there is a story about a school, "unions suck," "libruls are destroying schools." Doesn't matter what the topic, whether it's about owning dogs, or gardening, there are around 50% or more comments like that.

Today I was on a LinkedIn group for my profession, which is design. Someone posted a story and beautiful pic of the First Lady in regard to her Inaugural fashion. And the first comment "love the hair, love the dress, HATE how Obama had destroyed small business!!" Really? And someone below her agrees.. and off they go hating on the President, who had done a fuck of a lot more than Bush ever did. Frankly, these dipshit interior designers have a short memory. Most of us were put out of business because of the Bush/GOP housing crisis and financial crash. It literally wiped out 75% of interior design businesses. Just so tired of them interjecting their politics everywhere... constantly.

have you noticed that they're much worse in the past year? I guess losing your ass in an election empowers them, or is it just trendy to be a cynical asshole that can't stop from spouting a political put down even if you're on a kitten rescue site?

2. don't rule out the possibility that these are paid posts

There are rooms full of people who get paid to patrol internet forums, posting talking points from the prescribed viewpoint.

6. Yep. I've seen lots of ads for that sort of thing on freelance work sites.

Lots of people with lots of money SPEND lots of money to pay for trolling. Usually it's spammers for some moneymaking scam, but sometimes it's for political stuff I am sure.

7. It's called obsession.

We see a great deal of it on DU too. Those who hate the President or Dems in general. Ubiquitous. Boringly redundant.

15. Or posters with their pet issues.

No matter what the topic they always try to turn the conversation over to their pet issue. This is a big reason why most protests fail, too many people pushing their pet issue rather than saying on message (which is why Occupy, with the "We are the 99%" meme, was so effective in contrast).

A lot of the wingnut posts are paid. It's a fairly large industry.

10. My answer to haters about $ or work. "What downturn i'm doing great!! OMG Yea, things were tough

there at the end of the housing boom, around 07-08 but i'm steadily improving" And alot more housing starts are predicted.(which is true). Let them know it's them. If they have that kind of attitude, their biz probably is down. You can't possess all that hate and emit positive energy.

11. Yes, and it's why DU is the only place I post regularly anymore.

Used to post on several other different message boards, but no matter what the topic, people always found an excuse to bash Obama.

I don't even most that much on Facebook, most of my "friends"(at least the ones I've meet and know personally) are rabid Republicans who constantly post about their hate for Obama. DU is my only escape from rabid RW talking points, and has saved my sanity many times.

12. Right wingers can control themselves on the Internet--if they want to

They just choose not to control themselves. They'd rather control everything and everybody else but themselves.

I've seen it happen at parties, at the waiting room of the tire store and the barber cutting my hair who i can't argue with because my hair is hostage. They have no manners and they think their opinion is more important than anyone else.

20. So why don't you remove yourself from the situation?

Shop at other places, cut them out of your life competly.

If you are the only liberal/progressive in your area, move.

You have control over your situition so why do you put up with in in the first place?

14. I think this is a symptom of a more general societal problem of snark overload.

It's like everyone has to exibit passive-aggressive sarcastic snarky meanness

17. Unfortunately conservatism as it stands now is the national id

And when the national id comes out to play online, things get bad quickly.

There are a few exceptions with some "issue" conservatives, like the paleocons on "the American Conservative" who for the most part manage to have interesting but misguided discussions that don't require brain bleach after reading (then again I'm a straight male and may not hear all the dog whistles).

But in general, yeah, conservatism is an ugly emotional reaction online, not a thought-out political and social philosophy, more's the pity.

22. They thrive on un- or poorly moderated boards/threads.

They most often frequent poorly moderated or open sites that are supposedly intended for the left, such as left-leaning newspaper sites.

24. They seem to think that having a strong opinion makes them sound smart

And since they are basically repeating what Rush or Glenn says, they think they are informed AND smart.
