Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Face it: Hillary is inevitable.

We'll have a fierce fight on our hands in 2016, seeing which party can move further to the right.

So let's all fall in line now and start preparing for a tough general election.

Hillary is 45. Deal with it.

Regards,

Third-way Manny

1. You left out that thingy, you know the one....

I hope that the honorable SOS will give some affirmative sign some time soon as to her intentions and/or willingness.

To not do so would be a disservice to the base.

Personally, I don't think it's on her bucket list or in her future, and it would be best for her to put it to rest right now.

Or, to give us a sign to the contrary.

4. Ahem! If she opts to run.

Need I say that many things can change in four years. Please let's not count our chickens before they hatch.

I would also love Hillary running for president in 2016, and I would support her. I just do not think that it's likely to happen.

But I'll R& this thread regardless.

7. Hillary is 45 what?

She's not age 45. That was twenty years ago for her.

And Hillary is NOT inevitable. Back in 2001 a lot of people here thought Gore was inevitable in '04. And, I almost hate to bring it up, but in 2006 a lot of people thought Hillary was inevitably going to be our nominee in 2008. I keep on telling everyone, it is about three years too soon to have any clue who will be our nominee next time. Really.

Plus, isn't anyone else at all disturbed by the idea that the campaign simply never ends?

That said, I do want Hillary to run, but not sure she'll choose to. If Chelsea has a wee one she might just want to spend a lot of time with family. REALLY!

13. I don't know.

I'm the same age as Hillary (or actually a year older) and I can't even imagine the stress of a campaign and actually being president at the age of 69-73...or 77. Not saying it couldn't be done, but I think a younger person might be a better choice. Hillary has done so much; it seems like she might want to just rest and relax.

Hillary, because a drawn out primary will hurt our candidate, etc etc

How many times are we going to get to hear that tired BS again. I can't wait.

None of the desirable candidates have said they are candidates, and if they are, secretly, of course, what do they offer us if they win? Haven't heard about anyone's platform.

19. The trickiest bit will be properly tuning the dog whistles

Trying to reach both of the liberals left in 2016 while massively appealing to the right will be an arduous task but I'm sure Hillary will be up to the job.

I predict two hellish years of peace and prosperity in 2014 and 2015, by 2016 all of the Very Serious People will be begging for another war and an economic downturn to ensure continued mega profits for the MIC and further low wages for the proles.

Hillary will be perfect for the job.

Right now she's giving every indication of being exhausted by her four years as Secretary of State, cleaning up after Bolton, Rice and Powell, and looking forward to retirement.

35. That's what I'm afraid of.

No more corporate-friendly "Democrats." Besides, in my mind, Biden will always be associated with suppressing evidence at the Clarence Thomas hearings thereby allowing Mr. High-Tech Lynching a Seat on the Court. And aren't we all glad how that worked out?

It's bad enough the media started the 2016 race before the president even finished out his first term. But, I really wish the people here would stop with the damn speculation less than a week into the second term. An awful lot can happen in a week, let alone four years.

29. But is she "centrist" enough?

I for one will need to be convinced of her centrist bona fides. She needs to start working now to move herself further to the right. I think she may still hold 1 or 2 actual liberal positions and if so she needs to make sure she starts distancing herself from them now.

Will she be able to adequately dismiss unions?
Yes, shes pro wall street and corporations...but is she pro wall street and corporations ENOUGH?
Sure she loves the military and secrecy.....but really just how much does she love it?

As long as she answers she makes it clear that she's moderate and centrist and sensible enough and not too beholden to liberal contingents then she may have a future in the democratic party.
