Lanny Breuer, Justice Department criminal division chief, is stepping down (FRONTLINE Wall Street)

BREAKING: DOJ Chief Lanny Breuer resigned today after #Frontline film "The Untouchables" airs last night
http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/doj-criminal-division-chief-stepping-down/2013/01/23/e4331e32-64e0-11e2-b84d-21c7b65985ee_story.html … @OccupyWallSt

Lanny A. Breuer is leaving the Justice Department after leading the agency’s efforts to clamp down on public corruption and financial fraud at the nation’s largest banks, according to several people familiar with the matter.

As one of the longest-serving heads of the criminal division, Breuer’s tenure has been filled with controversy and high-profile prosecutions. He was admonished for his role in the agency’s botched attempt to infiltrate weapon-smuggling rings in the operation dubbed Fast and Furious. And he has been accused of being soft on Wall Street for failing to throw senior bank executives behind bars for their role in the financial crisis.

Yet Breuer is widely credited with aggressively going after white-collar crime in the aftermath of the crisis. He also stepped up the division’s involvement in money laundering cases, launching a series of criminal investigations that have resulted in multimillion-dollar settlements.

It is not clear when Breuer intends to leave, nor what he plans to do once he departs, but it is certain that the prosecutor’s days in office are winding down, according to people who were not authorized to speak publicly about the matter.

4. We need many more prosecutions of the banker and criminal elite

and less cronyism too that supports same. The DOJ is always prosecuting people instead of corporations when they claim corporations are people. We need to see corporations and banks hanging out on a limb to dry for trillion dollar crimes instead of prosecuting average people for doing nothing wrong, except maybe violating a technicality on a TSAs.

6. finally!

It is disgusting and shamefully that bank executives have been allowed to get away with grand theft. Bernie Maddof has nothing on these guys.

10. Barring a tectonic shift over the next four years, "looking forward" is going to be

this President's legacy. Refusing to investigate and prosecute blatantly criminal policies and actions at the highest levels of government and business was a decision on par with the Three-Fifths Compromise which was, of course, the tacit sanction of slavery made to appease the slave states during the Constitutional Convention in order to get the Constitution of the United States.

What did the Obama administration get in exchange for allowing these crimes to go unpunished?

11. "What did the Obama administration get in exchange for allowing these crimes to go unpunished?"

Oops, you said it out loud.

And in reply, probably the same thing for the DHS, FBI, and their (through iWatch) PD tentacles to systematically destroy the encampments and marches of the Occupy Wall Street movement, who dared to demand something be done by the government which represents the people of this country. 7400+ arrested, FBI searches and offering bomb-making materials, DHS overseeing police with Peter King on their board, calling Occupiers angry losers, living in their own filth...

Edit: This just showed up on Twitter, haven't read it:

18. Has his boss Atty Gen. John Mitchell issued a statement yet?

I'm sure it will be full of regret about Lanny needing to spend more time with "The Family".
