31. Uh, that is

Key Largo. Excellent movie and Bogart is one of my favorite actors. He and Ms. Bacall were supporters of liberal causes. I can think of few first roles that made such an impression on me than her role in "To Have and Have Not". "You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow." She was 19 when she did this movie. Sensational.

42. Gotta go with...

TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT

The chemistry between Bogie and Bacall in that movie literally lit up the screen...I've been (secretly) madly in love with Loren since the first time I saw that movie.

28. the worst thing that ever happened was when Libs called themselves progressives

that to me is like changing from a good wine to pee. Watered down and rotten.

This was the era when libs held their heads up and stood up to crud bags.

treats the "little" people like crap.

6. "Or maybe just a whistle..."

To Have or Have Not, 1944.
Here's IMDB: http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0037382/

Great flick with Bogie and Bacall.

If I remember correctly, she was all of eighteen when they filmed that scene.

Thanks much for posting it.

7. It's cool to be liberal again!

It was never not cool, but you know what I mean. Reinvigorating the progressive movement will go down in history as one of President Obama's greatest accomplishments along side ACA, gay rights, immigration reform and on and on.

Someone posted that they are grateful to be in the prime of their life to experience the Obama era. I feel exactly the same way! I would have followed him as a college student, but I appreciate him more after living through Reagan and two bushes.

10. Thanks, Playinghardball

Someone, maybe you & sheshe2, should start an album of sorts, of Democrats-Liberals-Progressives down through time with one of their quotes. Place them in one album and publish that sucker.
I would purchase several copies of it myself!

11. Love her...I actually met her once, over 20 years ago at a store opening...

We were talking about the food they had laid out...she is actually short...I had never seen her before in person and I always assumed she was this tall, leggy lady...anyway, very very nice and personable.

24. Great flick!

I always thought that was John Wayne's best, even better than True Grit. And Bacall was fantastic, but then again, when wasn't she? Damn, she's 88? If I make it to that age, I hope I look half as good as her. Talk about cheekbones.

34. About John Wayne's best

Off-topic a bit, but his best film was The Man who Shot Liberty Valance, and I'd argue the point with the best of 'em

44. And I am proud of YOU, Lauren.

What a class act she is! I remember watching her old movies when I was a kid in the early 70s and thinking wow, she was so ahead of her time. I wanted to be just like her, in those elegant pants, confident and gorgeous.
