3. Well, about 40% of it any way.

According to the recent household estimates.

Did you really want to play what-if with a false "if"?

4. That depends. ...

Let's assume that a magician developed a spell and waved his magic wand and all firearms in our nation disappeared instantly and the spell also stopped any smuggling of firearms into our nation.

Now that would be real gun control!

Now let's suppose that you are a male who is 25 years old, 6' 5" and in top physical condition with a black belt in karate, jujitsu and Kung-fu. You would be reasonably safe against an attacker.

But if you were a female who was 5' 2" and weighed less than 100 pounds and found yourself attacked by a much larger male who intended to rape you, you might be at a significant disadvantage even if you had similar martial arts training to the guy I described in the last paragraph. (I'm talking about real life and not a movie in which some small beautiful woman takes on five guys and puts them all on the ground.)

Both my mother and my daughter did use a handgun to stop a rapist. Both were small petite women. My daughter did have some martial arts training. The attackers were not shot, although my mother did fire two shots over the head of her attacker. My daughter merely had to point a large caliber revolver at the guy who was forcing the sliding glass door of our kitchen open and he ran.

7. My mother's incident happened in the 1920s in a somewhat rural area of Pennsylvania. ...

My daughter's incident occurred in the 1990s in a suburb of Tampa Florida that was moderately violent.

5. On the other hand, if guns were as dangerous as some make them out to be...

Being that we have roughly half the the privately owned small arms on the planet here in America - some 300 million plus firearms...

Shouldn't this country be the deadliest place on earth?
