Female veterinarian Euthanizes her 6 Pets then euthanized herself

Female vet 'gave her six pets lethal injection before using same drug to kill herself'

Police suspect financial problems may be behind the suicide
It's believed she killed her four dogs and two cats before suicide

Dr Edie Klein was found dead from a suspected suicide in her surgery along with her six pets today

A vet is believed to have injected her six pets with a fatal dose of drugs before taking her own life Monday at her veterinary surgery.

The body of Dr Edith Klein, 48, the owner and head vet at The Pet Health Care Center in Pelham, Georgia, was found alongside her four dogs and two cats by an employee at 8.30am.

The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office says a motive for the suicide and deaths of her pets is unclear, although they suspect financial issues involving the business could have played a part.

Pet owners who arrived at the clinic today to buy supplies expressed that shock at what had happened in such a 'quiet place like Pelham.'

One former client Kelli Akridge told WISTV new vets nearby may have taken business away from her.

1. Could you possibly change your title to say veterinarian?

2. Why does title say "female"?

Is that important to the story? Or is it just another attempt to paint women with a broad brush?

I am confused by this...

Of course, it's the Daily Mail!

10. I guess the two female pronouns in the sentence weren't enough.

But had the headline read "Veterinarian kills pets, self", the immediate assumption would have been that it was a man... for some legitimate reasons (men are more likely to commit suicide) and some illegitimate ones.

11. What???

Your assumption that a headline without a gender specific noun or pronoun more than likely implies a male is countered by the fact that there are more females than males both in this country and the world as a whole.

And how is the fact that more men commit suicide even relevant?

The Daily Mail is a slime publication which has a history of going for the least common denominator, as is the case here. It is the UK's version of sensationalist yellow journalism. I cringe every time it is cited here. This headline is merely one of their, admittedly, less excessive excesses.

The gender of the suicide is not the most important fact here, unless you wanted to malign the fact that she was a woman.

Plus, didn't I point out that this is the Daily fucking Mail?

12. "And how is the fact that more men commit suicide even relevant?"

Seriously?

It's the direct, literal, explicit answer to your question, that's why.

This incident was newsworthy, for "man bites dog" reasons; it's atypical. It was necessary to be explicit because of a stereotype in the mind of the readers. The male image conjured in the public eye by "suicide victim" is for good reasons.

5. This is so very sad. She knew better than anyone how hard it is to find good homes for her

animals. She didn't want them to suffer so she took them with her.

Via con dios Dr.Klein and fur family.
