4-year-old KC girl dies after being shot by 6-year-old boy

A 4-year-old Kansas City girl shot in the head earlier this month by another child who found a gun on a chair has died, police said today.

Trinity Ross, who turned 4 just three days before the shooting, was declared brain dead last week, police said. She later was removed from a ventilator.

Police were called to the girlís home in the 10500 block of Monroe Avenue just before noon Jan. 10. Officers found Trinity lying on her back on the living room floor near the television with a gunshot wound to her forehead. Two relatives, boys ages 5 and 6, were standing in the corner of the living room.

A 58-year-old woman who lives at the home said Trinity is her husbandís daughter. The girl had just gotten out of the Freda Markley Early Childhood Center at 11:30 a.m. The woman was watching the three kids. She left them in the living room while she went outside to get something from her car, police said. She heard a gunshot, ran back inside and found Trinity wounded.

1. Children killing children with adult killing machines

Maybe if she had a gun, this wouldn't have happened.

Someone else in the family had put it there.

10. the woman hasn't been arrested?

wouldn't that be a case of felonious neglect?

just think, if there hadn't been a gun there, the little girl would probably still be alive.

15. again, how do you go after a person when they do not know there is any danger there? that makes no

sense. i totally get going after the person that left the gun. that is his/her responsibility. to secure the gun. but, a person that does not even know it is there???

18. This when I think of the term 'gun control'.

TO me 'gun control' is making sure your GUN is NOT sitting on a chair with kids around!

RIP child.

23. Another responsible gun owner.

Yep. Every single gun owner claims to be responsible. So how in the world do all these things happen?

One good thing (if I can use the word good here) in the wake of Sandy Hook is that many more shooting deaths are making news, even making national news that wouldn't have just over a month ago. Maybe, if there is the constant drum beat of all these deaths (30 a day approximately) then the gun apologists will finally begin to understand how constant and unremitting the gun deaths really are, and how something must be done to stop them.

Personally, I'd go for outright confiscation, but I realize that's not a popular stand.
