Where are we going to be in four years?

I wonder who will be getting inaugurated in four years. It's very unlikely that it will be someone like Obama. He is a good government, scholar, man of the people type. It looks like it will be one of the east coast governors (Cuomo, Jeb, Christie, O'Malley). Will we go with the tough guys (Christie or Cuomo), the next in line from Bushco, or someone new like O'Malley?

Either way, I'm not sure that in four years we'll be as lucky as we are right now. Obama has set a high bar in his first four years.

1. Hopefully Hillary

You don't think Hillary is going to run? I didn't see her in your choices.

3. Definitely possible...

My point is that there isn't a clear front runner or next in line. Maybe Biden will run, but I don't think he will win.

4. In four years to the day...we'll be listening to Hillary's inaugural speech and I'll

be even happier than I am today. Why? Finally...a woman president! :hop: )

17. I beg to differ!

Early 70's is not too old. She won't be the first and she has the most experience in all the important criteria.

6. I predict the GOP will go full on crazy and toss out Bachman, Palin, Perry, and Ryan with ...

... Ryan coming out on top for the GOP nomination.

The Dems will pull some stunt of handing the nomination to political lifer who deserves the chance but doesn't stand a chance -- the Bob Dole/John McCain syndrome.

I want to be wrong.

13. The crazies don't have the votes to do that...

The social conservatives are dying out. Those people are all old, white, rich males and being replaced by the youth of the party which is more libertarian. People like Palin, Bachman, and Santorum have no chance of winning the nomination. That wing of the party doesn't have the votes anymore. That's part of the civil war in the GOP right now.

This war favors the Democrats for the time being. But if the result is a GOP that is more socially moderate, we may have significant problems in 2016 or 2020 if the economy doesnt turn around.

7. Hillary, hopefully.

It seems like Ms. Clinton is the best bet for 2016. And I agree with you regarding the commendable job Obama has done, with a few exceptions (Pell Grant cuts, Bush tax cut extensions, etc.)

12. I personally want to see a Democratic dialog....

For now, I am going to relish the Presidents swearing in today. When that day comes we need to have a family discussion about where we are and where to pick up where President Obama left off.

The bar is high but there's much to do. I feel so much better for the next four years than I did the last. I think we are lucky, too!

16. Certainly those who have spent the last 4 years complaining about how terrible Obama is

will have come up with the ubber liberal candidate that they can rally behind.
