Does the Justice wear a funny hat?

What's wrong w/this picture? It's a constant bone of contention for republicans when it comes to Obama. Wonder if we'll hear any background noise from republicans over this...

1. They'll probably applaud.

Republicans tend to be mean spirited bad losers and all.

3. He can't find his heart

Everyone else has a hand over their heart.

This sort of gesture confounds Fat Tony.

8. What is that with Scalia not placing his hand over his heart?

And why does Sotomayor look so glum? (Of course if I had to stand next to Scalia for any length of time I'd look glum too.)

12. I thought that Sotomayor looked choked up with emotion and pride. IMHO.

4. It's supposed to be a replica of a hat worn by Thomas More

in a famous painting by Hans Holbein:

I'd call it delusions of grandeur. Scalia is no Thomas More (the patron saint of lawyers, martyred by Henry VIII because he refused to sanction Henry's divorce from Anne Boleyn).

6. I do think it reflects Scalia's 15th-century outlook, though.

13. It was a gift from the Thomas More Society. You should take it up with them.

14. The Thomas More Society is a right-wing Catholic organization

of lawyers who take on litigation opposing abortion and same sex marriage. I don't think it really has that much to do with the original Thomas More. https://www.thomasmoresociety.org/

17. I will never miss an opportunity to make fun of Fat Tony Scalia.

Including for wearing a 15th-century hat.
