Katy Perry Wows in Patriotic Leotard at Kids' Inaugural Concert

President Barack Obama's second Inauguration got off to an explosive start on Saturday when "Firework" singer Katy Perry hit the stage for the Kids' Inaugural Concert in Washington, D.C. Perry didn't bring any real fireworks with her, but she didn't need to -- her performance was spectacle enough.

Showing off her patriotic spirit in a sexy stars-and-stripes-themed leotard, the pop icon sang several of her biggest hits, including "Teenage Dream," "Part of Me," "Wide Awake," and "Firework," which was accompanied by a slideshow of photos showing President Obama in action. First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters, Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, sat front row at the show and clapped and danced along to Perry's performance.

"I'm very proud to be here," Perry said, "and to see the Obamas and the Bidens here for four more years!"
Earlier in the night, the crowd at the Washington Convention Center was treated to sets by Usher, Mindless Behavior, Far East Movement, and members of the cast of Glee. Usher -- clad in black leather pants, a matching jacket, and red sneakers -- kicked off the festivities with a high-energy performance of "Yeah!," followed by "Without You" and "OMG."

And that is fine with me.

7. I know. I was at a Super Bowl party last year when Madonna came on at halftime

I walked outside in order to keep my string intact. I had never seen/heard her perform and wasn't about to jinx myself.

There seems to be quite a bit of obsession regarding Miss Perry, though.

9. I know most of her songs.

Harmless fluff. My kids listen to her, Pink, Taylor Swift. I know too much pop music for my own good.

13. I'm really out of touch on pop music. My kids like metal. "Nu" metal, progressive metal,

death metal, etc. Some of it is pretty good--but overall, I'm just getting too old for that stuff.

18. I prefer Linkin Park and heavier music in general.

I grew up listening to Metallica as a kid. But I had an older brother. My girls like the pop stuff so I end up listening to it too. My oldest is only 8 and thinks Katy Perry is the best thing ever. At least they arenot into Justin Bieber.

10. Not her singing but one of her better known hits as used by Glee

Same song done two different ways. Bookend of Kurt and Blaine's relationship. The first time was when they met, the latter when Blaine admitted he cheated.

Thanks for posting that!

15. I watched it streaming last evening ...

And I have to say, this girl has absolutely no talent. She can't sing and she can't dance. But all the little girls seemed to know every lyric, and I can see from this thread that the gentlemen find her alluring. The entire kid's concert was a mystery to me. Usher singing OMG to 8 year olds?

Baby let me love you down
There's so many ways to love ya
Baby I can break you down
There's so many ways to love ya
Got me like, ooh myy gosh I'm soo in love
I found you finally, you make me want to say
Oh, oh , oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
Ohh my gosh

Well, at least Usher is talented. But heavens to Betsy, my kids used to listen to ... Raffi (singing Baby Beluga) ... at that age. I'm feeling old.

23. Really? When I was that age

Last edited Mon Jan 21, 2013, 11:35 AM - Edit history (1)

I listened to Saturday Night Fever and Grease. Not all the lyrics were appropriate for 8-year-olds but I loved the songs anyway.

My youngest (3) knows all the lyrics to "Gangham Style" and "Call Me Maybe." (Edited to clairfy that she doesn't speak Korean, but does sing "Hey, Sexy Ladies" with much gusto.)

I mean kids listen to kids' music too, but it's hard to avoid what's on the radio. Did your kids really not listen to any pop music at 8? Not even the younger ones, when the older ones were listening to it all the time?

think she's incredibly hot. I don't see it. Grace Potter? Hot. Katy Perry? Talentless and strangely sexless.
