Schools might want to rethink letting their textbooks pass by Texas Board of Education first

A new report put out by the Texas Freedom Network Education Fund reveals that in several public school classes on the impact of the Bible on history have found classes teaching from a right-wing, fundamentalist Christian standpoint.

A Southern Methodist University religious studies professor Mark Chancey found instances of students learning a literal interpretation of the Bible, that the earth is approximately 6,000 years old and that Judaism is a “flawed and incomplete religion” with materials “designed to evangelize rather than provide an objective study of the Bible’s influence.”

TFN also found a lesson explaining “racial origins traced from Noah.” This includes that claim that Africans are descendants of Ham, whom Noah curses in Genesis 9 after he “saw the nakedness of his father,” has long been used as a biblical justification for anti-black racism and slavery.

Ah yes, and to help out Texas, here's a quiz question teachers can use in their history lessons:

Are you under the CURSE OF HAM?
Yes
No

3. I thought the problem was not so much that schools choose ...

... their books based on Texas board approval, but that the text book publishers choose books that Texas approves. This leaves schools in other states with only Texas-ready books to choose from.

4. I really hope not

I read ahead when I was in school, I think I would be in for quite a shock seeing a picture of a person riding a dinosaur in one of my schoolbooks.

6. You are correct

The publishers are only interested in sales numbers, not content.
