Letter I wrote

Last edited Fri Jan 18, 2013, 06:27 PM - Edit history (1)

Thought I would post a letter I wrote to the local paper..

As a Vietnam era veteran and son a wounded WW2 vet, I feel I must speak out against the paper patriotism of the far-right.

This group is always hooting about how patriotic they are; how much they love the military and support law enforcement. But talk is cheap. Actions are something else.

These “patriots” had no problem when George Bush sent our men and women off to die in a war for false reasons. Who can forget how Vietnam war veteran Sen. John Kerry was mocked at the Republican convention by sunshine patriots wearing fake bandages ridiculing the wounds he had received in Vietnam? And remember how they spread such false and malicious stories about Kerry that a whole new word entered the English language; “Swiftboating?” And let's not forget what they did to Georgia Sen. Max Cleland, the man who lost one arm and both legs in the battle of Khey Sahn. Saxby Chambliss ran an ad depicting Cleland as a mixture of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden while conservative darling Ann Coulter falsely claimed he had been injured in an accident with his friends "while drinking beer!"

Now this same gang tells us how much they love and respect law enforcement. But now that President Obama has called for measures that will help reduce gun violence and make the work of our law enforcement officials a bit safer; they will have none of it!

Instead, they are running around making asinine comparisons to Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin!

It's not only a public demonstration of their total ignorance, but it demonstrates their moral hypocrisy as well!

1. Funny how people who have been to a real war like you, Kerry and now the man who is a

republican and being nominated for defense secretary are being hounded yet none of them ever served. You are so right. A real man who was in a war aren't so like to send our troops off to war.

11. Great letter

We should all be writing and emailing our newspapers, Congressmen/women and our POTUS.
I emailed the POTUS yesterday, thanking him for taking a stand on gun control.
It takes a few mins and I hope it makes a big difference.

13. Thanks for the kind replys

and, as always, feel free to copy it and use it for letters you may want to send to your local newspapers...

and just to make sure everyone understands...Vietnam veteran means you served IN Vietnam..Vietnam Era vet means you served during the Vietnam era not necessarily in Vietnam..I served most of my time in the Philippine Islands at Clark AFB..
