This is why you flush them: Fisherman catches massive goldfish

I'm glad goldfish can have a nice long life in the wild.

1. Give a man a goldfish and he eats for a day

That's called carpe per diem.

4. !!!!!ROFL!!!!!

Dang - that's about as big as our oversized, overgrown goldfish is! My kid won it at his school carnival when he was maybe four years old. He's 20 now. And it's still with us!

3. nice fish. all goldfish are another type of carp if you ever go to the tidal basin in DC

You can catch goldfish bigger than this. Just ledger some sweetcorn and voila mayby you may even get a big carp as well. Love me some carp fishing.

8. Carp is one of the toughest to catch on purpose fresh water fish out there

Most are caught by accident while fishing for something else. I once caught one that went 20 or so pounds and I was fishing for bass. 10 lb test line and a 20 pound carp ensured that it took a while to get the fish in the boat. At first I thought I had a monster large mouth bass and was disappointed when it turned out to be a carp. As a poor kid in the '50s we eat carp. Pretty much any fish we caught was table fare.

11. it depends on how you fish i love carp fishing and use the euro method

All electronic alarms and hi tech bait science. Probuably spent thousands on my rigs just to catchbtrash fish as.my buddies say but i prefer carp fishing to all other fish.

14. Yes I can imagine

as I mentioned they are one of the hardest to catch on purpose fish out there and once you have one hooked they put up a good fight. Lots of stamina plus you catch big ones.

20. At the risk of making you groan

the carp anglers at the club down the road apiece to which I belong regard our double figure tench and bream as nuisance fish.

This is my mate Andre who I've known since we were 5 years old. He caught The Scar in France @ 91lbs back in 2008.

21. damn nice fish. i always wanted to fish for mary but i doubt it will ever happen

But i like the carp fishing here as you can rack up multiple tjirties in a session in a lot of waters. Havent caught a bream in years though i have been catching dace or its equivelent in the shenandoah river on a dry fly and its lots of fun.

5. No, not Goldie!

She was such a good fish.

I've seen some about this size in the wild before.

6. You can buy gold fish for bait in the bait stores here

live and about 3 maybe 4 inches long. Good bait for trotline or limbline as well as jug fishing for catfish.
From looking at these fish that is what they are, they just got their freedom and grew up. I doubt this fish has ever seen the inside of someones house

9. I bought some little 1-inch "feeder" goldfish for my turtle once. I pardoned four of them.

One female grew to over 10 inches.

I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time once, and recovered some eggs that she had just laid and the males had fertilized, before the fish could eat them. (Fish are dumb.)

I managed to hatch a bunch of them, and gave the young ones away.

25. Just looked it up and yes

they are descended from carp but cannot breed with them. Koi are also from the carp family and can interbreed with them.

24. Goldfish are carp the way ...

... dogs are wolves. They are a human-bred version of the "common colorful carp", an Asian carp variety.

Given sufficient space and a long enough life, they will get big.

27. Id flush live goldfish as much as throw out chia pets.

Call me a wet blanket but I'm not down with introducing non-native flora/fauna into an Eco system.
