Santorum: LGBT rights, abortion, porn are ‘symptoms’ of college indoctrination

Former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum says that colleges are “indoctrinating” students in a “sea of antagonism toward Christianity” and marriage equality, abortion and pornography are all symptoms of the problem.

10. Good. So, he can have 3 different ceremonies for turning them back in!

I hope he also gives back any state or federal aid he received while attending Penn State, Pitt, and the Dickinson Law School.

5. i love when Santorum talks about universities

everything he says about it is covered with a shiny coat of Santorum

for example:

&feature=player_embedded

SANTORUM: I was just reading something last night from the state of California. And that the California universities – I think it’s seven or eight of the California system of universities don’t even teach an American history course. It’s not even available to be taught.

25. Wow. I bet he got that in one of those emails on the intertubes.

Or this:

One of the issues that I always got hammered for was the issue of evolution. I was the guy who actually put words in the No Child Left Behind Act, which was our big education bill that passed back in 2001 or 2002 that reformed the education system. Well, I had an amendment, it’s a great story, I had this language, because what’s taught in our school system as a result of liberal academia, is evolution is an incontrovertible fact. There is no suspicion of it. It is decided science that cannot be questioned. There cannot be any doubts about it. If you have any questions or doubts, it’s trying to inject religion into the science classroom. So it is above reproach.

I obviously don’t feel that way. I think there are a lot of problems with the theory of evolution, and do believe that it is used to promote to a worldview that is anti-theist, that is atheist.

7. Why are Republicans so eager to show off their ignorance of history?

Now, admittedly I don't know about marriage equality in ancient civilizations but one doesn't have to dig too deep into history to know that porn and ways to deal with unwanted pregnancy go pretty far back....pre-university back even.

I take comfort in knowing that idiots like Santorum would get destroyed in the general election but it's still disturbing that there are no Republicans who will call out these fools up front.

My next-door neighbor only has a high school degree and yet he believes in LGBT and reproductive rights.

(Not sure about his opinion on porn though).

What do you make of that, Saint Ricky?

21. Santorum views porno

So do all his sons. I would be willing to wager on it. I used to work with a hardcore Mormon. I got him to admit that he, at least sometimes, looks at porn. He admitted it is normal to be curious about it. We actually agreed.

13. In one way he is correct! When we went off to college we met a whole lot of different people and

saw a lot of different lifestyles that educated us as we had never been educated before. And just for Santorum's info - I attended a Christian college. Learned a lot of good things about my fellow human beings there.

All those topics are the same. There must be an entire college curriculum devoted to the sameness of them. Hell, entire colleges devoted to studying their sameness. Their sameness is, like a Gestalt---oops tree-hugging pinko-commie word there sorry,

Biology, sociology or any other 'ology' not required. Oh, Maybe fundie theology

17. Santorum has a problem with people going to college. Remember this?

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum kicked up a media storm when he slammed President Barack Obama as a "snob" at an Americans for Prosperity forum in Troy, Mich., on Feb. 25, 2012.

"President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college," Santorum said. "What a snob. There are good, decent men and women who go out and work hard every day and put their skills to test that aren't taught by some liberal college professor that (tries) to indoctrinate them."

18. Carmel HS

Rick Santorum attended the same high school as my children. However whenever the school lists famous alumni they seem to 'forget' that he attended the school.

Carmel is a Catholic high school and they don't want to claim him as theirs. They feel that he is not a good reflection of the values that they teach.

One of my college history profs said that to a couple of fundamentalists that kept challenging everything they didn't like.

I loved it!

27. What does he care?? Jizz face already said college is for snobs and elitists

taught by liberal college profs.

Born in Virginia, Santorum was raised primarily in Butler, Pennsylvania. He obtained an undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University, an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, and a J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law. Santorum worked as an attorney at K&L Gates where he met Karen Garver. They married in 1990, and have seven children. An eighth child died shortly after birth.
So did this indoctrination just start or is admitting he spent his many many college years in a pornographic santorum haze
it was before his marriage so maybe it was OK?

30. Maybe he should try to pass a law that bans all higher education that doesn't center around Jesus as

its sole raison d'etre.

Yeah. That'll work. We can all have degrees in Christian Bible Study. We'll be the greatest nation on earth again, for sure!

32. I have no doubt that progressive thinkers at universities have had a positive

Influence on the gay rights movement.

And I'm grateful that I caught the education bug. College rocked this bullied gay small town boy's world and lifted me out of poverty to a position where I have enough to care for my aging parents. They gave so much to me, and it gives me purpose to have the means to remove some of the sting of poverty.

And exposure to liberal ideas and great thinkers sparked a lifelong search for knowledge and truth. I have no words.

Awesome.
