FTC cuts off 'Rachel from Cardholder Services'

http://www.csmonitor.com/Innovation/Horizons/2012/1102/FTC-cuts-off-Rachel-from-Cardholder-Services

"Five companies behind the 'Rachel from Cardholder Services' scheme and other credit card robocalls were shut down Thursday, the FTC announced. The FTC estimated that the companies had defrauded customers out of more than $30 million by promising to lower credit card interest rates in exchange for an up-front fee."

Somehow, I missed this story from November 2, 2012. Can it be true? Will I never hear from Rachel again? The horror!

3. Half a dozen time I did the "Press 1" thing

to get to an actual person. As soon as they figured out I wasn't being suckered in, they would hang up. At first I just tried to demand to be taken off their list, and subsequently I tried various other ploys to bet enough information to turn them in. It became sort of a game, but not so entertaining that I'll miss Rachel.

4. I have been called by "Tiffany from Cardholder Services" every day for the last 3 days.

Perhaps she is Rachel's equally annoying sister. Anyway, I will be interested to see if she calls again.

If it weren't for the robocallers, I'd never get phone calls from cute women.

Donald Trump's hair, 7 teeth, Herpes Simplex, and a raging yeast infection..

5. They need to force the phone companies to terminate their phone services

and prevent them from obtaining future phone services.

14. The best part is when they tell you,

"There's no problem with your current credit card accounts." That always makes me feel more secure, you know, knowing that there's no problem.

for Caller ID. Saw one come in Tuesday so they have more work to do to eradicate them. Never ever answered one of those thanks to all of the hullaboo about them on the 'net.

25. They have no real criteria, I get them constantly and I have not had any credit card for 20 years.

so it is real obvious to me that they are a scam.

Not too long ago, she changed to a guy -- can't remember that name.

However, the calls have been fewer.

24. I used to press "One" to get more info

just to mess with them. I'd ask if they could do a lower rate than zero since I pay my credit cards in full everymonth and never have to pay any interest. Also wastes their time.

27. Want to screw with them...try this.

This 'Rachel' or 'Ann' call my cell phone every day. Forget about taking you off their list or the FCC or FTC doesn't work.

So if they call I waste THEIR time.

Do this before they call.
Go to a web site like 'Fake Name Generator'

and make a fake identity. keep hitting Generate until you get one from your state.
usually it will give you a fake SS#, address etc.
Print it out.
Then take your real debit card, write the 1-800 #, the bank name and the first 4 digits down.
Take your real credit card write the 1-880#, bank name and first 4 digits down.

Go to a 'Validating Credit Cards in one step' steve morse has a site
on the web. put those 1st 4 numbers down, then randomly make the next 12 numbers, until a combination comes up as Valid. Usually you just have to change the last 2 for it to work.
Write those down. Make up a fake expir. date, a fake 3 number code from the back and when they call gladly give them the info and waste their time.

When they call.......Get your print out.
Tell them you have more than 7000 in debt, the card has a 9000 limit and you have a 12% interest rate.

Give them the fake DEBIT card info first, but don't tell them it's a Debit card. they will ask for the 1-800 number, bank and expir, date. they will tell you to hold on, when they come back they will say there was a problem. Tell them... oh I'm sorry I gave you a debit card by mistake.
Then give them the fake credit card #.

After that they will hang up on you. But at least you wasted their time.

29. Footnote....

Reason why you use the real 800# and 1st four digits.
The 1st 4 digits of a credit card are assigned to a specific bank. If they don't match the #s to the Bank, THEY KNOW YOU"RE scamming THEM.
They must have a database of bank 1800# and cards.

Also. When you give them the fake SS# only give them the last 4 numbers. One guy asked for the whole number and I said I'm not comfortable giving that over the phone. He of course says, 'I understand, if you were giving me all of them, I would know if was phony. No real person would give that info up so fast. We have the whole number on file anyway.'

These guys are amazing at trying to lure someone.

Tried asking nicely to take me off your calling list, called and filed complaints with FCC, FTC. They can't do anything. You can't block the number, they call with a different number.

So why not have a little fun with them.
