2 men arrested, weapons confiscated

Posted: 8:41 PM

MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Two men are under arrest after their target shooting with an AK-47 assault weapon sent bullets flying through a Medina County neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.

One Parnham Drive resident, unaware of the hail of bullets, scurried back into her home as police arrived to warn her and her two small children of the danger, another homeowner ran to her basement.

Montville Township police found themselves dodging bullets as they tracked down where the shots were originating.

“When I get about a half mile back in the field up on a hill, gunfire started again, and started hearing rounds go over my head,” said Montville Police Sgt. Matt Neil.

Snip~~ "They were drinking alcohol, they had some drugs on them and they were just outside, in their backyard shooting paper targets,” Neil said. “They felt because they were shooting at a downward angle, that it would have been OK.”

this stuff is not uncommon. Had a kid terrorizing the semi-rural neighborhood I live in exactly like this. A warning is all they get.

6. Assault weapons, alcohol and dope. What could go wrong?

The latter two are probably okay if you stay at home. The first, not so much.

These guys belong in jail for a spell. And with such a conviction on their record, should never be able to own a gun again.

7. Shows the types of yahoos that buy assault weapons.

Common sense gun owners know that they target practice with a backstop that stops bullets from traveling outside the shooting area. Only an idiot would target practice in the open with houses within range of bullets that are being fired.

And any "idiot" can currently buy all the assault rifles and ammo he wants, without even a background check.

10. Shocked, I tell you. Were the guns legal? Were they registered? What's illegal about a little

backyard target practice? The boys are restless, a few drinks, a couple of joints, some machine gun revelry, letting off some steam...private property rights and all...what could possibly go wrong?

The following goes in my No Shit Sherlock files...

"Kuruc, grateful no one was injured, echoed a warning Montville police are sending, “If people are going to target shoot out there, be very careful with where that bullet goes because it could have killed somebody.”"

If ???? Y'all be careful now, hear?

What a scary day for everyone involved. This is why we need a nearly total gun ban. It's to the point of ridiculous. No one is really safe from gun accidents anymore.

The NRA would say that if those frightened mothers had their own assault rifles they could have returned fire, and the police need not have even been called.

23. Depends on the location.

There are some fully automatic AK-47s in the USA. They are few and far between; very expensive to buy; require federal paperwork. Full auto guns are legal in some states illegal in others.

Almost all "AK-47" rifles in the USA are semi-auto clones, legal just about everywhere.

Outside the USA references to "AK-47s" (actually AKMs) are the real full-auto versions.

26. One shouldn't have to wear body armour in their house.

If you feel safe in your home, you have a false sense of safety

Bullets don't know the difference between the ground and a house. They don't know that they are aimed at people.

This country has turned into a surreal action movie where we are all players.

34. Similar thing happened to my husband and son -

- as they were fishing the day after Christmas some years ago. Husband heard shots, saw water in lake spew up and recognized they were under fire. He grabbed my son and they hunkered down behind a metal utility box that wasn't far from shore. Called police on his cell and gave them location. Police finally found house where fire was coming from. The guy had gotten a rifle for Christmas, was target practicing and didn't realize how far his missed rounds were traveling.

I'm all for education and that yahoo could have used some. You can bet he knows now.

35. Another Classic Example Of The Guns-As-Toys Mindset At Work.

Those "cosmetic features" that our Gun Enthusiasts are always in such a hurry to dismiss are in fact very important. You don't see this sort of idiotic, child-like behavior involving, say, a Winchester Model 70 bolt-action hunting rifle (a "Fudd Gun" as such firearms are dismissively called by gun activists). But let some yahoos get their hands on an assault rifle like an AK-47, something with bad-ass military features, including a high-capacity magazine, something bearing a striking resemblance to the toy guns they had as children, and the party is underway. I'm so glad they collared these two jerks before they had a chance to do some lasting damage.

even matter with an AK-47? My understanding is that they just fling a bunch of bullets until something gets hit.
