1. Seriously. You should put a disclaimer about what happens to the mouse.

Some people won't want to see it.

11. You have GOT to be kidding!

Seriously?

"Some people won't want to see it."

Then those people need to stay the hell off the internet, for crying out loud.

Jesus H. Christ on a tricycle. Do we really have to be so protective of fucking grownups?

Sooner or later that mouse was going to be dead as a doornail. Better it fed a majestic hawk, than starved to death. Protecting peoples sensibilities from the realities of nature is just waaaay over the top.

Look...it's the order of things, OK?

The fact is, there is no way to know whether that Hawk got that exact mouse. Watching that video closely, it is difficult to tell if that mouse even crossed the road.

Oh what the hell am I bothering with you for?

Jesus. IT'S A FUCKING MOUSE, FOR FUCKS SAKE!! DON'T WORRY, THEY'LL MAKE MORE!!!

32. OMG. FFS. Mice EXIST to, firstly, reproduce (which this one probably did many times) and

secondly, to become food for somebody higher up the food chain.

Do you think when they die they just rot on the ground? They get snatched up and eaten BEFORE they die. Life AND DEATH are part of the great circle.

Get a grip. Life is not some Disney movie.

55. +1

You can't get through to these people. They make shit up in they're heads. Unfounded assumptions and they "Stick with it" till the bitter end, even though they're absolutely transparent.

one thread I was in, I was labeled a gun nut (not directly) because I was supporting some one who said "
"My kids are more important to me than any other parent's child. Period." to the question are you kids more important than Obama's?

He never replied to any of the scathing posts directed at him, I tried to get people to actually read what he wrote, but in the end he was a gun nut and so was I. I'm pretty sure the only gun I ever shot was a BB gun back in grade school.

Oh yea, they were the overly sensitive types who think "yes, life is a Disney movie".

There is a cancer going on here in DU and I don't like the way it's growing.

The mob mentality is growing and being perverted all with pitch forks and torches in hand ready to hunt for the next witch.

37. Ashamed of what?

They had a mouse in a garbage can. They let it go in the wild. Where was the setup? Did they somehow conspire with the bird before hand?

Cadet: Psst... Hey buddy... Come here.
Hawk: Who? Me?
Cadet: Yeah. You hungry?
Hawk: Sure. I have not eaten in two days.
Cadet: You up for getting some hits on your Youtube channel?
Hawk: Yeah, my last kitten chasing a laser pointer video sucked. I only got about 5 thousand hits.
Cadet: Ok... Wait here, I have a mouse I caught and I want you to eat it.
Hawk: Sweet! I'm sure hungry. But how will this get my hits up?
Cadet: Simple. I'm going to pretend that I'm doing a good deed and letting the little guy go, but you swoop in and eat him.
Hawk: What?
Cadet: Yeah. You wait up in the tree until I say "I just got to know him", then you swoop in and take him.
Hawk: That's kinda sick.
Cadet: Yeah I'm kinda sick, but Youtube hits are the most important thing now. Girls love Youtube hits.
Hawk: They do?
Cadet: Yeah. You want a woman, you need a couple hundread thousand Youtube hits.
Hawk: WTF?
Cadet: Trust me this will be awesome! You're hungry right?
Hawk: Yeah, it's been a couple of days.
Cadet: Ok, so you go up in that tree... Wait for me to say the phrase, and you swoop in and take the mouse.
Hawk: Why don't you just give me the mouse? I'm hungry.
Cadet: Cause you can't get girls without Youtube hits.
Hawk: What kind of sick girls do you hang out with?
Cadet: The kind that like a dude for Youtube hits.
Hawk: You're a sick bastard. Just get me the mouse... I'm hungry.
Cadet: No.. It's cool. Trust me, you'll get to eat, and your Youtube hits will go up.
Hawk: I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this.
Cadet: You see that blender?
Hawk: Yeah.
Cadet: I'm going to toss this mouse in the blender and flush him down the toilet unless you do this?
Hawk: OMG! You're messed in the head.
Cadet: YOUTUBE! Must have YOUTUBE hits. So get in the damn tree or Steve here is going for a ride in the blender.
Hawk: Holy shit! His name is Steve? How do you know that?
Cadet: We wrung it out of him.
Hawk: What do you mean "Wrung it out of him"?
Cadet: We waterboarded him until he told us his name.
Hawk: You're a sick bastard.
Cadet: You hungry or not? I can find another hawk.
Hawk: I'm so hungry... I guess I'll do it.
Cadet: Cool. Go wait in that tree and wait for me to say "I just got to know him".
Hawk: Ok. But we're both going to hell for this.
Cadet: Quit whining.

Cadet: I just got to know him

<hawk swoops in and picks up mouse>
Mouse: Aww WTF?
Hawk: Sorry dude, I'm hungry.
Mouse: You hungry?
Hawk: Yeah, it's been a couple of days since I've eaten.
Mouse: Go east, I know of a good burger joint that tosses out their leftovers this time of day.
Hawk: I love cheese burgers.
Mouse: Me too.

<a very stuffed hawk and mouse sitting outside the burger joint>
Hawk: Steve... These cheeseburgers are awesome! Thanks man.
Mouse: Thanks for not eating me.
Hawk: No problem. That cadet was an ass.
Mouse: Hey... You up for getting some hits on your Youtube channel?
Hawk: WHAT?!?
Mouse: I hear that ass of a cadet never learned how to hold his rifle properly and gets shit from his DI all the time.
Hawk: And?
Mouse: It'll get you some hits.
Hawk: Let's go...

22. I essentially did that with a mouse I caught

In one of those humane traps. I drove 3 miles into the country, opened the trap on both sides, and waited for the mouse to leave. And waited... and waited... and waited... Finally he runs out, not into the field that I parked beside but into the road just as another car drove by. I didn't see if he made it or not.

you had to know this was going to happen. I hate that it does but it is the way it is. I save stuff all the time but am under no illusion that it will do well once I put it out. We all take our chances.

Just last week I came home from a meeting and the largest Bald Eagle I have ever seen was sitting on my icy pond eating something. As it flew up I saw a rather large hunk of what used to be something recently alive. As big as it was I was terrified it was one of my cats. It was a bunny, it was dropped and the hawks and crows finished it off. Life is brutal and although I am a whiney baby about it and cry as easily over a mouse as a bunny it is what it is.

41. the disconnect from nature is so clear in the video and the thread

first is the disney perspective of the situation, but the other is the guy having no ecological clue - releasing a nocturnal prey animal in broad daylight in an area with little to no cover and probably just a short distance from the location it or its recent ancestors got into the building in the first place. (not to mention how many are probably still there, just waiting to replace it)

catching and releasing pests/prey animals like small rodents is a pointless feel-good exercise for humans with little to no understanding of what they are actually doing. this video shows it rather well.

About the size of a large robin.

A mouse was trapped in my garage, so I released it into the yard at dusk. The mouse got about 4 feet from my toes and suddenly disappeared beneath a small gray stone that wasn't there an instant before. The "stone" turned it's head (180 degrees like only owls can do) and looked at me as if to wonder how I ever got atop the food chain... and flew off with his heavy mousey burden.
