5. Jeb was born in TX. Then again, I guess it could be argued that TX WAS in the US when he was

born. Not sure how that would work.

28. The same way it worked with John McCain's Panamanian birth...

Or George Romney's Mexican birth. There is no real rule of law in the United States; it's all about the muscle you bring to the fight. There will always be a Bush in politics until their dastardly past is fully exposed and publicly acknowledged... which won't happen because they can bring more muscle to the fight.

They want to...

8. ^this^

Plus, they don't get to, regardless if a majority wanted too anyway. This country has already fought a war to put an end to that sort of thing.

10. I don't think a secession would provoke war today, though.

If the majority (or perhaps supermajority) of a state's voters supported a secession referendum, I very much doubt that there would be much support of going to war to force them to remain. Very, very different times...

14. Nothing Even Close To A Majority Of Texans Support Secession.

How many have signed that stupid petition? 100,000? 200,000? That, versus 3,300,000 Texans who voted for Obama recently, myself included, with socioeconomic trends clearly indicating a good future for Democrats in the state. Try restricting your wishful thinking to pro-gun sentiments.....

15. indeed

This "let them go" crap gets very tiresome. Texas is on the verge of being a solid blue state. Yes, it is a loony bin at the moment, but it isn't going to last, even with all the effing gerrymandering. If everyone (on the national party level) would quit writing us off it would happen even faster, IMHO.

17. My Sentiments Exactly.

Particularly as to the national party: they seem happy with us forking over our money, while writing us off, otherwise. And as for our resident DU Texas Haters, who are so eager for our state to leave, thus reducing millions of Texas Democrats to political refugee status: fuck 'em. And the horse they rode in on......

But we've got that dipshit Perry as a governor, so we come in for plenty of abuse. As if we all voted for the jerk....

16. Never said otherwise.

Despite your silly attempt to read into my post things that were (obviously) not there, all I was asserting was that any contemporary effort to secede that was supported by a state's majority would be unlikely to be opposed by force. That's all. Nothing about whether or not such a majority exists in Texas (I couldn't care less: I don't live there, don't expect to visit).

Kennebunkport is their summer retreat. Jeb was born in winter, in Texas.

He'll have to run from his brother, but I don't think he would ever get far away enough to win.

23. Being a reasonable person, I propose a compromise...

1) Those folks who wish to secede may do so at any time they wish, and the rest of the country will, I'm sure, wish them well and Godspeed. HOWEVER;

2) Other than the dust on their shoes, they may not take any American land with them.

I believe this approach was summarized in the '60s and '70s by the uber-patriot expression "Love It or Leave It." Since I'm sure they're no less patriotic now, there's surely no reason for them to disagree.

I doubt any poll shows that the majority of Texans want to secede. It's just a few loons. Maybe they could all move to the desert.

Sorry, you're bored, but seriously, this shit again? This is getting to be so predictable. Not much going on in the news, so hey, let's have another Texas secession OP!

So creative.
