DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroits own Funk Brothers, known for their background vocals and instruments on many Motown chart-toppers, headed back to the recording studio for the first time in 40 years.
The group recently recorded the song, Because of You, a tribute to President Obamas legacy as the nations first black president.
The Funk Brothers touring member Gary Martin co-wrote the song. He told WWJ Newsradio 950?s Scott Ryan the collection of talent at Detroits Studio A that day was unbelievable.
Some of the different members that had been a part of Funk Brothers came in to see this recording themselves. It was a high moment because everyone felt all of the brothers and the sisters who had passed, being a part of that, where there, Martin said.
The song also includes contributions from band members Bob Babbitt and Uriel Jones, both of whom recently passed away.

(9,893 posts)Great song, great musicians here and in the hereafter.
A great reason to stay on the straight and narrow is the chance that all those wonderful musicians who have departed will be playing when I finally get there.
I hope that the departed Funk Brothers can find a place for the late Duck Dunn, of Booker T and MGs, the Stax house band, along with Bob Babbitt. What talent on base!
