Thank you Mike Bloomberg for muscling this to a vote and through
and for getting Andrew Cuomo on board on an issue that was never of importance to him

The new gun law for New York State is expected to pass the Assembly, Tuesday. The law would increase the ban on assault style weapons. It will also not allow the sale of guns to those deemed mentally ill.

It was passed in the Senate on Monday with a 43 to 18 vote.

"In this package we not only addressing all the major issues that we set out to fix but we've done so in an inclusive and bipartisan way that has provided us with a comprehensive bill that so many of us can really be proud of. As we have said all along this is not about taking anyone's rights away but about securing the right of all New Yorkers to live in a safe and free society," Republican State Senator Jeffrey Klein said.
Here are some of the key details. The law broadens the definition of assault rifles to include those that have flash suppressors, a pistol grip or any other military-style features. A new gun permit process will help the state better track gun owners. Ammunition magazines will be reduced from 10 to seven rounds.

(36,437 posts)Chicago is the object lesson here. Oh, how the gun nuts love to laugh and point at the misery on the South and West side of Chicago. With your tough gun laws, they laugh, why so many dead black and brown kids? Oh hardy har har! I suppose it doesn't work, pish posh.
Of course, they know perfectly well that the legal and "responsible" gun owners and sellers (of Indiana especially) are feeding the illicit market and getting rich off it. They know that it is only non-local federal provisions that can deal ultimately with the problem. They know we need tough penalties for anyone who fails to report a gun lost or stolen - the usual con job of the straw buyers - as well as detailed tracking of sales and ownership. Local laws are a good start, but we need strict enforcement of existing laws, new federal registration and tracking laws, and anti-trafficking laws in particular.

(49,445 posts)Nice.
So a New Yorker can't have this semiautomatic .223 fed from a detachable magazine...
(pistol grip, flash suppressor, telescoping buttstock)
Or have this semiautomatic .223 fed from a detachable magazine...
(flash suppressor)
But they can have THIS semiautomatic .223 fed from a detachable magazine...
Well, I'm sure this will help.

(11,464 posts)I have found, whenever a gunnie is losing an argument, they resort to posting big large ugly smutty pictures of WMDs to obscure the thread.
it is oh so predictable
As has been found out, Gun people are scared shitttless about the meek Mayor Mike.
and even more so, pro-gun people are scared about running primaries against the pro-nra
with new anti-nra democratic candidates
like happened in California.(tata Baca).
step by step
one by one
they will all the pro-NRA, pro-gun candidates will fall like dominoes
may take six years, but it is happening
the NRA is dead.
And it was Zimmerman that made it happen.
Mr. Trayvon Martin, who might have cured cancer when he became an adult out of college,
did not die in vain.
God Bless Michael Bloomberg, private citizen for spending his personal money on this.
til the last gun has left the streets.
and any attempt at overthrowing the government should be met swiftly like the Benedict Arnolds they are (maybe we can call in Janet Reno to lead a new position).
krispos42
(49,445 posts)Deal with it.
My statement is factually true. And it will be true until and unless the State of New York outlaws all semi-automatic rifles. Period.
Congratulations, you're getting laws passed. If that was your goal, then you've achieved it. But be aware of what you've achieved... a big propaganda victory and a nominal practical one.

(2,282 posts)Let's see. We have:
* fear of pictures
* smut
* weapons of mass destruction
* dominoes
* Trayvon Martin
* cure for cancer
* Benedict Arnold
* Janet Reno
Let me know when a coherent post appears.

(11,464 posts)my comments are understood by the 99% of the world who don't want guns
the NRA is the 1%.
4.3 lifetime members out of 330 million is 1% rounded
(and so many of those 4.3 are dead, the NRA never takes anyone off their totals.)
The curtain has been revealed
The NRA is dead, but like the Knights who said Ni, they just don't realize it yet.
I can fully understand though why you would not like Mike Bloomberg.
Mike Bloomberg. The GREAT Equalizer. And his target is the guns in the street.

(2,282 posts)mentally unstable mass murdering homicidal maniacs will be incapacitated if you take away
* deadly flash suppressors, and
* use of evil black plastic (though gov't studies may be needed to determine if pink plastic is still evil)
The R.E.A.L solution is to provide mentally unstable mass murdering homicidal maniacs with better vision care. That way they will be able to read the 'gun free zone' signs better.

(11,464 posts)I fully support any war powers or patriot act items needed to deal with anyone attempting to pull any gun or bullet out in NYC and/or overthrow the government.
As the NRA wants armed guards everywhere, let's have Eric Holder train those soldiers coming home from Iraq and Afghanastan to be positioned on every street corner in America
Better the feds than the Paul Blart Zimmerman's, I am sure you would agree.
BTW, that facility in Michigan someone posted about, sure reminds me of Waco's compound.
Needs to be monitored 24/7/365.
this isn't fun and games anymore.
this is life and death.
Damn wish there were drones and cameras and 24/7/365 watches to have been there to take care of James Earl Ray prior to his doing what he did in Memphis, same with Oswald, same
with the awipe who got John Lennon.
and btw, the NRA will be to blame for any/all who whine later about the new eyes in the sky
and all that.
I know if I see something, I will report it
Terrorist weapon mass destruction-any gun and bullet.
fun and games is over.

Do you actually believe you will have those rights or do you just like the illusion?
Edit- forgot racial profiling, as NYC shows us, we have to have those abuses weighted against certain people...

(6,342 posts)A gun is a useless piece of metal when it's just sitting there. It won't do anything to you.
In order for it to hurt you, someone would need to pick it up and pull the trigger.
The same with any weapon whether it's a knife, a baseball bat, or a bow and arrow. Anybody can violate your "right to safety" with any object he picks up.

Fire Walk With Me
(38,893 posts)This is Occupy, and this is NYPD:
That's a court order she's waving, before being punched in the face by NYPD, to allow Occupiers into Zuccotti. NYPD didn't.
I don't have handy the pic of NYPD whiteshirt Anthony Bologna pepper-spraying citizens from behind with a hateful expression on his face (just after he'd pepper-sprayed several women, one of them deaf, who had been "kettled" behind orange netting). Or of Roumanian, who was bloodied by them and arrested; there are photos of his bloody face online. And of Winski saying he didn't need a reason to arrest Occupiers; he'd let the judge sort it out. And that Bloomberg's girlfriend was involved with the company who own Zuccotti. (Private ownership of public space.)
If you'd been watching Occupy channels from the beginning, you'd understand. Much less that "stop and frisk" was just partially struck down as unConstitutional. And that even the FBI said NYPD were way overboard regarding spying upon Muslim Americans. And there's more. I encourage you to research this topic.

now, the NRA is dead. And the Waco like terrorists stockpiling guns will be stopped.
