Does the corporate media want to talk about guns all the time? What does that tell us?

Corporate media is paid to distract and divide.

What might be really going on in this country that the media is instead trying to get us fighting over guns?

And violence and we have are trying to resolve a serious issue in our nation. I'm happy that there is media coverage.

6. just ask yourself, when was the last time the media was on our side, covering something important?

Republicans are planning on stealing social security to pay for wars, which will result in killing, both here and abroad.

Is the media focusing on that important issue?

The media is not our friend.

Not only are they bought off corporate whores, ridiculously stupid, selfish, sadistic and immature.

They should not be leading the national debate, and no intelligent DUer should be following anything they do or say.

They said Romney won the debates

9. Has this responsible media discussed the mental health of the perpetrator, what drugs he was on?

what help he was getting?

In the past, both media and psychologists would study what made a certain mind behave in that manner..they would look for further clues than the fact that he had a gun.

We no longer have investigative journalism, where Big Pharma paid for 'psychologists' groups officially blame guns for mental health issues.

We have a responsibility to use our brains and dig deeper.

Corporate media does not care about this issue or the deaths of those children.

They care about misleading and distracting the nation while our treasury is looted, constitution ignored our Congress is acting like a bunch of selfish immature 3 year olds.

12. I take it that you are upset because the topic for discussion is guns.

There has been considerable discussion and ongoing discussion about mental health from various angles. It is part of the discussion as well. But, hey, I guess you haven't noticed some of the other topics in the media. Guns will not be taken off of the table in the matter of ongoing massacres and public safety. Got it?

11. Does the media care about kids who were forced to demolish a building with asbestos w/no protection?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2260546/Ohio-school-criminal-investigation-using-students-demolish-asbestos-ridden-building.html

Does the media care about people who will die because of crimes of banksters? This man was kicked out of his home, bank didn't finish foreclosure paperwork, now he is liable and can't get the health care he needs

The worst news came last January, when the Social Security Administration rejected Keller's application for disability benefits; the 'asset' on Avondale Avenue rendered him ineligible. Keller's medical problems include advanced liver disease, hepatitis C and inactive tuberculosis. Without disability coverage, he can't get the liver transplant he needs to stay alive.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2260201/Zombie-foreclosures-Homeowners-legally-liable-houses-seized-banks-foreclosed.html

The media doesn't care about US at all! They have proven that over and over.

So whatever they are doing with this gun issue, it is not for our benefit.

5. For the most part...

... "the" corporate media sucks, but just in case you didn't notice, the sane people in America are fed up the slaughter of people by the gun culture. You think they should just ignore that? WTF?

What's "really going on in this country," is that psychos have easy access to human meatgrinding machines and they are using them.

Furthermore, I can't speak for you ,but I and most others are fully capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.

18. I don't disagree that...

.. the 1% is fucking us over, but if you think you can shame the media they own into having an honest conversation about it...

Finally getting the slaughter being done by the gun culture talked about is a good thing, it's sad that it took the massacre of almost 2 dozen babies in less than a minute, to make it happen.

8. Not all guns... I've been hearing

a bit more about climate change lately. But, of course, it is ALWAYS perfaced by something along the lines of "while our climate is CYCLICAL, there does seem to be a human contribution to CO2 in the atmosphere that MAY be a factor".

10. another divisive issue they want us to argue about

The only solution they ever talk about is carbon tax.

Does the media ever talk about eliminating pollution because of our very obviously unhealthy air?

This would help(trick Republicans into) reduce global warming and it is something we could all agree on because Republican children are also getting asthma at record levels.

Does the media ever talk about free trade agreements, that had all of our factories move to countries where they can pollute freely?

It doesn't help one damn bit to discuss what we will do in this country, if we continue to buy all of our products from countries that pollute freely so that corporations can make more money.

Does the media ask Al Gore how he could possibly support free trade when touting environmental issues?

The media does not give a damn about global warming either. Count on it.

22. very intuitive, thank you for that

If you are not cynical and cranky, you are not paying attention.

And if you trust anything this media tells you, you have not been paying attention for at least the last 12 years.

I agree with this poster

Topics we truly need to be having a National dialog about
http://www.democraticunderground.com/1251275179

...President Obama should be putting progressive solutions on the table. Things like a financial transaction tax, which could reduce the debt by $1.8 trillion over the next decade.

Or, cutting off taxpayer subsidies to big oil, which total $40 billion over ten years.

Or, ending the massive "capital gains" loophole which sets income taxes on hedge fund managers and vulture capitalists like Mitt Romney at a maximum 15 percent, less than half of what working people can pay.

Or, common sense cuts to our bloated and wasteful Defense Budget.

Or, raising the minimum wage to stimulate the economy and, thus, over the long haul, reduce our debt.

Or, breaking up the big banks to prevent more costly, deficit-expanding bailouts in the future.

Or, creating a single-payer healthcare system to reduce deficit-inducing healthcare costs.

If all of these were on the table, then this would be a robust debate that reflects the political leanings of a center-left nation.
But, they're not, which shows not just of the weakness of President Obama, but also the weakness of the progressive movement when compared with the hard-right movement funded by cranky billionaires like the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson.

But in case you did not notice guns were not on the agenda for more than two seconds after Giffords was shot, or the theater in Aurora. None was planning to talk about this. It was settled, until Newton.

But you go on.

35. Overall rate of violence is down actually, the numbers have been down for decades...

We are actually growing more peaceful, domestically, anyway.

Only the rates of crazy massacres is up, which is why people would normally look at what is causing these mass murderers to go on these shooting sprees.

Perhaps it is psychoactive drugs ( is that a right wing talking point? because I am a liberal psychologist) that are adding to the problem in some of these cases, and that should be looked at, not ignored.

Also a report yesterday had a Dad speak of Adderall making his son jump in the cage with a tiger at the zoo.

A Duer reported Ambien made them sleepwalk and shoplift. FDA just recently cut the dose in half for women presumably because of these problems that they are well aware of.

So it is not far fetched to consider that the gun acted in conjunction with a person messed up on drugs but I don't see that being analyzed, just arguing and people so angry and passionate about guns, who were never this passionate about the wars and the killing in Iraq. But whatever.

The whole point was too much discussion on guns, when upcoming social security policy will kill thousands more, albeit more slowly and painfully.

39. Especially when they use the same 5 talking points EVERY TIME!

1. It's a conspiracy by corporations to distract you. (It can't possibly have anything to do with 20 dead children!)
2. Nothing can be done, so you might as well not try. Sometimes worded, "you are too insignificant, give up."
3. (And this is my favorite) Spoons kill more people than guns. (Or cars, or whatever. But really, the "spoons" argument just kills me.)
4. It isn't the guns, it's the mental health system
5. We need the high capacity guns in case the government gets uppity.

It's always THE SAME 5. AND NOT ONE OF THEM MAKES ANY SENSE AT ALL!!!!!!

If it weren't so sad, it would be funny.
