1. Because.......

Our forefathers were some pretty smart guys, who didn't take shit from anyone! They knew firearms were a key element in preventing tyranny.

5. That's a myth.

The second amendment was so that the people could protect the government, not protect themselves against the government. "A well-regulated militia" doesn't mean that firearms were to prevent tyranny. A well-regulated militia presupposes a government.

11. I very much agree with your sentiment, but...

... I had my eyes opened as to how the 2nd actually ended up as part of the Constitution by reading this:

http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1465114

Things aren't always what they appear to be, as in this case, it seems that neither side has the real history of the motives behind the 2nd correct. Thank you Thom Hartmann for pointing me to this.

Fascinating and eye opening.

2. Like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, health care, food, etc. are all surrogated to

the right of a person to pack a weapon of mass carnage on his hip. The answer: the thinking in this right-wing driven country is fucked up beyond all reason as evidenced by der mittens receiving 47% of the vote notwithstanding Ryan's budget plan and all the other right-wing craziness/cruelty.

6. There isn't a constitutional right to own guns

Only the Roberts court decided to make shit up about it.

7. Poppycock.

If you have any actual interest in how the 2nd Amendment came to be, rather than this kind of romanticized mythology, here's a link to a well documented and fully evidenced dissertation on the matter. However, it won't fit very well on a bumpersticker, it's just over a 100 pages long.

Enjoy your new found knowledge.

10. If you don't agree with...

... that "someone else" it might be nice if you were to flesh out your post by saying so.

Just a suggestion that might cut down on confusion.
