Ok since i haven't ticked anyone off lately-

This gun thing is completely out of control, #1 You assault weapon folks really think that a few assault weapons can beat drone or missile strikes on your ass specifically cause you shoot off your mouths and guess what ( to add to your paranoia) you become marked as potential domestic terrorists. #2 As a hunter/ fisherman for 40 of my 60 years I am of the opinion that lever/bolt action weapons are all one needs to hunt, Single action revolvers and double barrel or over/under shotguns That is All one needs to hunt /protect home. So, NO I am not anti gun but I AM PRO COMMON SENSE!!!!

3. I have to believe that most gun owners in the US are in the same camp

we are not going to war against the government so that you can have something which its clear you do not have the maturity or common sense to be in control of.

We'll be turning in the gun nuts, not on their side defending them.

4. I agree but I wouldn't go so far as outlawing pump action and double action

revolvers. I would be in favor of letting people have their semi-autos, just have them
registered similar to full autos already are in the 1934 law. I saw the movie Gangster Squad today with their Thompsons, how in the hell did they manage to control full autos back in 1934.
Wasn't there an NRA back then?

5. Why do they need semi-autos?

Can you explain?

7. Because Those Big, Hulking, Skull-&-Crossbones Tattooed . . .

neo-fascist types can't bear to have their steroided muscles strained by repeatedly working a bolt-action lever or pumping the fore-end of a shotgun. Such exertion simply exhausts the poor dears . . .

Seriously though, Control-Z, all "semi-auto" means is that a bullet is fired every time you pull the trigger. (There is a much more technical explanation but I'm trying to keep this simple. Please don't confuse semi-auto: pow-pow-pow--with full auto, which is akin to a machine gun: BRRRRRP! or RAT-A-TAT-TAT-TAT! Sorry; read too many Sgt. Rock comic books growing up . . .)

The issue that many of us (perhaps you, too?) have come to be concerned about is how large a magazine the weapon holds. The larger the magazine, the more bullets that can be fired before the shooter has to reload. Limiting magazine size is a piece of the gun control puzzle, I believe, that needs to be addressed.

8. In my opinion they don't, but when have you ever heard of a shooting

where a full automatic like the Thompson was used? I don't really know what red tape you have to go through to own one but you can still own a full automatic. I think there is some kind of license, background check and registration involed. I am thinking maybe they could include semi-autos in that category. That would hopefully keep them out of the wrong hands.
You will never eliminate all gun deaths unless you confiscated all guns and that would be nearly impossible.

14. Semi-auto covers most of the popular hand gun designs.

The Colt .45 is semi-auto and the design has been in service for just over 100 years. I'd highly prefer that pistols be left alone subject to the rule to use original (design) capacity magazines. For a .45, that's 7 or 8 rounds.

I'd have to concur with the OP on rifles. Bolt action is plenty.

6. I'm surprised this has so few replies!

I agree. Common sense must be allowed into the discussion.

9. Well since the title line of the op didn't have the word gun in it

the pro-gun people haven't noticed it. There are a lot of individuals that lurk around and jump on any thread with gun in it. There are quite a few here that only post on gun related threads.

11. Yeah, I've noticed that... probably the paid trolls

There was another thread today where a paid astroturfer/troll came clean. I read the article that was in the link, very informative.

10. Is my puny little .22 semi-auto gonna' get included in your ban?

I seriously don't know how I feel about owning that now, I used to target shoot with it from time to time but it's been years since I've had it out. If it came down to it I could live without it. And I fully agree with you, there's no need for anything even remotely approaching what a lot of people have in their home arsenals.

In fact, come to think of it... these guys call themselves "sportsmen". I don't see much sport in hunting with an assault weapon, it would be much more sporting to hunt with a bolt action single shot rifle.

12. I don't think a 22 rimfire should be included but I suppose some

do. I agree totally about "sportsmen". I hunted a lot when I was younger when damn near every plot of land wasn't posted and I don't see their fascination with military style guns either. As a matter of fact one reason most of the land is posted is because of inconsiderate a--holes that run around on four-wheelers and cut fences. From my experiance those are the same type that also think they need a military weapon to hunt deer.
